Mizoram scholarships offer financial and other benefits to its domiciles studying at pre-matric and post-matric levels. The Samaj Kalyan Vibhag, under the State Government, handles the Mizoram scholarships. Students residing in Mizoram and studying class IX or higher levels can apply for the Mizoram scholarships. List of Mizoram Scholarships 

The Central and state government provide several Mizoram scholarships to students from the SC/ST, OBC, general and minority communities. However, some of these scholarships are exclusively available to the domiciles of Mizoram. Listed below are the popular Mizoram scholarships:

Pre-Matric Mizoram Scholarships 

The department of social welfare under the state government offers Mizoram scholarships to its students. Candidates from class I to X who belong to the SC, ST and minority categories can apply to the Mizoram scholarships. The objective is to encourage parents to send their children to schools by reducing their financial burden. Therefore, the government offers 30,00,000 scholarships to the students, out of which they allocate 30% of the pre-matric Mizoram scholarships for girl students. 

Eligibility Criteria 

The eligibility criteria of the pre-matric Mizoram scholarships are as follows:

  • The candidates should be permanent residents of Mizoram.
  • They should be in class I to class X.
  • For Scheduled Tribe Category
    • They should belong to the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category.
    • Their family income should not exceed INR 2,00,000 per annum.
  • For Scheduled Caste Category
    • The students should belong to the SC category.
    • The annual family income should not exceed INR 2,50,000 from all sources.
  • For Minority Students
    • They should either belong to the Muslim, Christian, Sikh, Parsi, Jain or Buddhist community.
    • Their family income should not exceed INR 1,00,000 per annum.
    • The candidates should have secured at least 50% marks in the previous examination.

Rewards 

The selected students will receive the following rewards under the pre-matric Mizoram scholarships:

  • The Government will pay the following fees for students in classes VI and X:
    • Admission fee - Up to INR 500
    • Tuition fee - Up to INR 350
  • Additionally, the government offers a maintenance grant each month in the following manner:
    • Classes I to V - INR 100
    • Classes VI to X - INR 600

Mizoram Post Matric Scholarships 

The State government provides Mizoram post matric scholarships for students studying class XI to those pursuing post-doctoral studies. However, they should be bonafide residents of Mizoram and should belong to the SC, ST or minority category. Similar to the pre-matric, the state government of Mizoram provides over 5,00,000 scholarships, and  30% is reserved for female candidates. 

Eligibility Criteria 

The Mizoram post matric scholarship eligibility criteria for the students of Mizoram are as follows:

  • The candidates should be domiciled in Mizoram.
  • Candidates between class XI and post-doctoral level can apply to this Mizoram scholarship.
  • For Scheduled Tribe Category
    • They should be from the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category.
    • The family income should not be more than INR 2,50,000 per annum.
  • For Scheduled Caste Category
    • The applicants should be from the Scheduled Caste (SC) caste.
    • The annual family income should not exceed INR 2,50,000 from all sources.
  • For Minority Students
    • They should belong to minority communities such as Christian, Muslim, Jain,  Parsi, Buddhist or Jain.
    • The applicants' family income should not be more than INR 2,00,000 per annum.
    • They should have cleared the previous qualifying exam with a minimum of 50% marks.

Tabulated below are the rewards of Mizoram post matric scholarships for SC, ST and minority categories:

  • The Government will pay the following fees to students in classes XI and XII:
    • Admission fee - INR 7,000 per annum
    • Tuition fee - INR 10,000 per annum
  • However, the students pursuing UG and PG courses will receive INR 3,000 to cover the admission and tuition fee.
  • In addition, they will also receive INR 350 each month for maintenance allowance.

Merit-cum-Means Mizoram Scholarship for Minority Students 

The Government recognises and awards deserving students from minority communities who require financial help. This Mizoram scholarship scheme is available to students pursuing technical or professional courses in recognised institutions. 

Eligibility Criteria 

The government will reserve 30% of the merit-cum-means Mizoram scholarship to girls. The eligibility criteria of merit-cum-means Mizoram scholarship are as follows:

  • The applicants should be domiciled in Mizoram.
  • The candidates should belong to minority communities such as Christian, Muslim, Sikh, Parsi, Jain, or Buddist.
  • They should be pursuing a professional or technical course.
  • They should obtain a minimum of 50% marks in their last qualifying examination.
  • Their family income should not exceed INR 2,50,000 per annum.

Rewards 

The Ministry of minority affairs, under the state government of Mizoram, will offer 100% funds to the selected students. Additionally, they will receive the following Mizoram scholarship amount:

  • The government will grant INR 20,000 per annum.
  • The scholars will receive up to INR 1,000 towards maintenance.

North Eastern Council (NEC) Merit Scholarship 

The North Eastern Council (NEC) merit scholarship provides monetary aid to the domiciles of any North Eastern states who are studying technical or professional courses. The North Eastern Council Secretariat of Shillong allots the fund for this Mizoram scholarship scheme. The students located in Mizoram can also avail North Eastern Council (NEC) merit scholarship. 

Eligibility Criteria 

The eligibility criteria of the North Eastern Council (NEC) merit scholarship are as follows:

  • Students studying upto the post-doctoral level can apply to the scholarship.

  • Their family income should not be more than INR 8,00,000 in a year.

  • The Government grants up to INR 1,500 worth of stipend.
  • In addition, they also grant up to INR 3,000 per annum towards books.

Maulana Azad National Fellowship for Minorities 

The University Grants Commission (UGC), under the Indian government, provides the Maulana Azad national fellowship for minority students. The domiciles of Mizoram can also apply for the MANF programme. The Maulana Azad National Fellowship (MANF) offers financial help to students pursuing MPhil and PhD degrees in India. UGC allocated a thousand scholarships to the students of Mizoram, out while 30% of scholarships are reserved to female candidates.

  • The applicants should have cleared the CBSE, NTA-UGC-NET or CSIR-NET exam before applying for the fellowship.
  • They should belong to the minority community.
  • They should have registered for an MPhil or PhD course in a recognised institution.
  • The student's family income should not be more than INR 6,00,000 per annum.
  • They should have obtained at least 55% marks in the postgraduate exam.

Rewards 

The UGC will offer the following benefits under the Maulana Azad National Fellowship (MANF) to the selected students in Mizoram:

  • UGC grants Mizoram scholarship amounts of up to INR 25,000 per month to the Junior Research Fellows (JRF) and INR 28,000 per month to the Senior Research Fellows (SRF).
  • The selected fellows will also receive the following contingency grant each year:
  • For Humanities, social sciences and commerce
    • Up to INR 10,000 in the first two years
    • INR 20,500 for the remaining tenure
  • For Sciences
    • Up to INR 12,000 for two years
    • Up to INR 25,000 for the remaining tenure
  • In addition, UGC will provide other benefits such as HRA, academic leaves, medical leaves, etc.
  • UGC will grant each student INR 3,000 per annum to the host institution for providing the necessary infrastructure.
  • They will grant an additional amount of INR 2,000 per month to the physically and visually impaired students.

Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship (RGNF) for SC/ST Category 

The Ministry of social justice and empowerment and the ministry of tribal affairs provide the Rajiv Gandhi national fellowship for the students belonging to the SC/ST category. The RGNF is a part of the tribal scholarship Mizoram and is available to the students domiciled in the state. The government offers financial support to the students aspiring to pursue MPhil and PhD degrees in sciences, engineering and technology, social sciences and humanities. 

Eligibility Criteria

 The eligibility criteria of the RGNF Mizoram scholarship 2023 scheme are as follows:

  • The applicants should belong to the SC/ST category.
  • They should have enrolled in a full-time MPhil or PhD programme.
  • The candidates should pursue higher studies in one of the selected streams:

Rewards 

The provider allocates 2000 scholarships to the SC students and 667 scholarships to the ST students every year. The benefits of this Mizoram scholarship 2023 scheme are as follows:

  • The selected fellows will receive INR 16,000 per month for the first two years and INR 18,000 for the remaining years in the fellowship programme.
  • The Government will pay the following contingency grant:
  • For Social Sciences and Humanities 
    • INR 10,000 for the first two years
    • INR 20,500 for the remaining years
  • For Engineering and Sciences
    • INR 12,000 for two years
    • INR 25,000 for the remaining years
  • In addition, they also provide HRA, medical and academic leaves throughout the fellowship.

INSPIRE Scholarship

The Department of Science and Technology [DST] under the government of India offers the Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE) scholarship to the rank holders of the Class XII board examination. Candidates located in Mizoram can also apply to the INSPIRE scholarship. DST awards this Mizoram scholarship scheme to over 12,000 students in a year

Eligibility Criteria 

Tabulated below are the eligibility criteria of INSPIRE scholarship:

  • The applicants between the age of 17 to 22 years can apply to this Mizoram scholarship scheme.
  • They should have secured the top 1% position in the class XII exam.
  • The students should have registered for BSc or MSc programme in natural/ basic science.
  • For Basic Science
    • The candidates should have obtained the top 1,000 ranks in the AIEEE exam.
    • Additionally, they should have cleared the CBSE PMT exam and enrolled in basic science.
  • For Natural Science
    • The NISER, KVPY, IISER, or DAE-CBS scholars enrolled in BSc or MSc in natural science can apply to this Mizoram scholarship.

INSPIRE Scholarship

  • The scholars will obtain INR 80,000 per annum and INR 20,000 per annum for summer research projects.
  • Additionally, they will also receive INR 5,000 per month.

UGC-NET JRF 

The University Grants Commission (UGC) conducts the National Eligibility Test (NET) for candidates who want to participate in assistantship professorship, Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) or both. Therefore, students in Mizoram pursuing MPhil or PhD in humanities or social sciences can apply to the UGC-NET JRF. However, the students must clear the national eligibility test to avail benefits of this Mizoram scholarship 2023 scheme.

Eligibility Criteria 

The candidates should fulfil the following criteria:

  • The applicants should not be over 30 years of age. However, the government provides age relaxation of five years to the SC/ST, OBC and PwD categories.
  • They should hold a postgraduate or an equivalent degree.
  • The candidates belonging to the general and other reserved categories should have secured the minimum marks.
  • The Mizoram scholarship details of the qualifying marks are as follows:
    • General category - 55% or more
    • SC/ST, OBC, PwD, transgenders - 50%

Rewards 

The selected scholars will receive the following benefits under the UGC-NET JRF Mizoram scholarship 2023 scheme:

  • The fellows will receive the following stipend every month:
    • JRF (Junior Research Fellow) - up to INR 12,000
    • SRF (Senior Research Fellow) - up to INR 14,000
  • They will also receive the following contingency grant:

    • SRF (Senior Research Fellow) - up to INR 20,500
  • The government also provides HRA, medical leaves, academic leaves and other benefits to the selected fellows.

CSIR JRF 

The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) conducts an eligibility test (NET) to select deserving candidates for the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and assistant professorship to work in Indian colleges and universities. CSIR invites applications for the JRF programme twice a year through the CSIR-UGC NET press notification. Candidates located in Mizoram can also apply to the CSIR JRF programme. 

Eligibility Criteria

 The candidates should fulfil the following criteria:

  • The candidates should hold one of the following degrees:
    • MBBS
    • BPharm
    • BE/ BTech
    • Integrated BS-MS
  • They should have joined an MS or PhD programme.
  • The applicants should not be over 28 years of age. However, CSIR provides age relaxation of five years to the SC/ST, OBC and other reserved categories.
  • They should have secured a minimum of the following marks:
    • Students from general category - 55%
    • SC/ST, OBC, PwD, etc. - 50%

The selected fellows will receive the following rewards:

  • The Government will pay INR 25,000 per month to the JRF for the first two years and INR 28,000 per month for the remaining tenure.
  • Moreover, they will disburse INR 20,000 to each fellow as a contingency grant.

Application Process for the Mizoram Scholarships 

Candidates can apply online through the Mizoram scholarship portals. However, the application portals vary for different Mizoram scholarship 2023 schemes. The applicants should ensure they meet all the eligibility criteria before submitting their applications. Eligible students can apply for the Mizoram scholarships through the official NSP, UGC, NTA, MSB and INSPIRE scholarships. Given below are the Mizoram scholarship details for different application websites: 

National Scholarship Portal (NSP) 

The list of Mizoram scholarships available on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) are as follows:

Mizoram Scholarship Board Portal 

Students who want to apply for the pre-matric, post matric, NEC merit scholarship should submit the Mizoram scholarship board online application on the portal. Candidates studying inside Mizoram should print two copies of the Mizoram online scholarship form after the final submission. They should attach the photocopies of essential documents and send one copy of the Mizoram online scholarship form to their academic institution. They can retain the other copy for future reference. 

However, candidates studying outside Mizoram should enclose the copy of their Mizoram online scholarship form and documents in an envelope and send it to the Secretary, Mizoram Scholarship Board, Aizawl Mizoram by speed post. NTA Portal

  • Students who want to apply for the INSPIRE scholarship should visit the official INSPIRE programme.

How to Apply for Mizoram Scholarships on NSP? 

The candidates can visit the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) to apply for the pre-matric, post matric, merit-cum-means scholarship 2023 schemes for minorities. Those applying for the first time should complete the registration process by clicking on the new registration button available on the homepage. However, the registered students can directly log into the portal with their application ID and password.  

After logging in with the NSP credentials, the applicants should duly fill in the Mizoram online scholarship form, upload the necessary documents and cross-verify them before submission. The candidates should safely preserve the NSP credentials. However, if they forget the password, they can easily retrieve it on the NSP portal.

The SC and ST candidates applying for pre, post matric, and NEC merit scholarships should visit the official Mizoram scholarship board minority portal. The pre and post matric scholarships for the ST candidates are done through the online mode. However, the NEC merit, pre-matric and post-matric for the SC students is through the offline application. How to Register on the NTA Portal? 

Candidates who want to apply for the Maulana Azad national fellowship and CSIR JRF schemes should qualify for the UGC NET or CSIR NET examination. From 2020, UGC has not been accepting any other separate applications for these scholarship schemes. The committee will select the candidates for the programmes based on their performance in the exam. Therefore, interested students can apply to the UGC NET/ CSIR UGC-NET exam through the official NTA website.
