He also has served as the Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas and Minister of Steel. He assumed office as the Minister for education and skill Development and Entrepreneurship on 7th July 2019.
Born on 26th June 1969, Dharmendra Pradhan is the son of Debendra Pradhan, a former cabinet minister in the Vajpayee government.
Political Career of Dharmendra Pradhan
In 2000 Dharmendra Pradhan was elected to the 12th Odisha assembly election from Pallalhara constituency and President of the BJP Youth Wing (BJYM) in 2001, Orissa. Further, in 2002 he was appointed as the National Secretary, BJP. In 2004, he was elected to the 14th lok sabha from the Deogarh constituency. He was a Member of the Committee on Energy and Committee on Petitions.
In 2012, he was elected to Rajya Sabha from Bihar as a member Committee on Government Assurances, also a Member JPC to examine matters relating to allocation and pricing of telecom Licenses and spectrum and Committee of Rural Development. He was also a member of the Committee on Agriculture. In 2007, he was a Member of, Standing Committee on Energy. In 2018, Dharmendra was re-elected to the Rajya Sabha from the Madhya Pradesh constituency.
In 2014, he became the Minister of State (Independent Charge) of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. He was appointed the Minister of petroleum and natural gas for a second term in 2019. He was also given the Ministry of Steel. Dharmendra Pradhan is currently functioning as the Minister for Education and Skill Development after the reshuffling of Cabinet by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 7th July 2021.
Achievements of Dharmendra Pradhan
Dharmendra Pradhan became an ABVP activist while studying higher secondary education in Talcher College, Orissa, and later became the President of Talcher College's student union. He began his political career as an ABVP, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad activist in 1983 and was elected as its secretary. He holds a postgraduate degree in Anthropology from Utkal University, Bhubaneswar.
The achievements of Dharmendra Pradhan are as follows.
- After serving in different positions in the BJP, he was elected to the 14th Lok Sabha. He was also elected a member of the Rajya Sabha twice from Bihar and Madhya Pradesh.
- He has been the longest-serving Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas ever in the Government of India. Joining as the Minister of State in 2014, he was then promoted to the Cabinet in 2017.
- In 2019, Pradhan continued his second consecutive tenure at the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India.
- He is popularly known as the "Ujjwala Man". He is credited with the success of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana launched by the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, under which over 8 million LPG connections have been provided to women from Below Poverty Line (BPL) families over the last six years. This project has been showered as the medium for driving women's empowerment and social change.
- As Minister of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Pradhan launched many crucial steps focussing on reskilling and upskilling the manpower of India and focusing on bridging the skill gap for the Indian youth.
- During his tenure in 2019, the Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) increased by over 40% and student enrolment increased by over 28%. In addition, Pradhan also launched one of the world's largest counselling programs Skill Saathi.
- Pradhan succeeded Ramesh Pokriyal as the Minister for Education in the Government of India on 7th July 2019 after Modi's reshuffling of Cabinet Ministers.

Maulana Abul Kalam Azad
Born on 11th November 1888 in Saudi Arabia, Abul Kalam Azad was an Islamic theologian, writer, and senior leader of the Indian National Congress Party (INC). He received his education from Al Azhar university. Azad was the first Education Minister of Independent India.
Achievements
The achievements of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad are,
- He played a crucial role in the Partition of India and Quit India Movement.
- Azad has authored many books like Ghubar-e-Khatir, Tarjumanul Quran, Tazkirah, etc.
- He is the first-ever Education Minister of Independent India under Congress rule.
Pratap Chandra Chunder
Born on 1st September 1919, Chuner was the Union Minister of India, an educationalist, and a renowned author. He served under the Morarji Desai Ministry from 1977 to 1980 as the Minister of Cabinet for Education and social welfare portfolio. He earned his BA (Hons) in History at Presidency College, Calcutta, and his LLB at the University of Calcutta. He was also awarded a D Phil in Arts from the same University.
Achievements
Chunder has authored many historical dramas such as the Bubhksha, Smrtira Alinde, Glimpses of Indian Culture: Ancient and Modern, etc. In addition, he has served as an attorney-at-law at the Calcutta High Court and an advocate of the Supreme Court of India.
He was the founder and chairman of the West Bengal Heritage Commission and the President of the Board of Governors of IISWBM, India's first MBA School.
Ramesh Pokhriyal
The former Education Minister of India, Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal "Nishank", served in the Ministry of Human Resource Development from 2019, followed by the change in his Ministry to education in 2020. Dharmendra Pradhan succeeded him in 2021. He was born in 1959 in a remote village, Pinani of Pauri district of Uttarakhand. His early childhood lacked in many aspects due to his financially humble background. Despite this, the brilliance of his intellect stood out. He claimed to have received an MA degree from Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University.
India's Education Minister states, "We can project India as a world power only through quality and value-based education." Pokhriyal commenced his career as a teacher in Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh-affiliated Saraswati Shishu Mandir following a journalist who then carried out his political journey.
Political Career of Ramesh Pokhriyal
With the founding of the Uttarakhand state, Porkhiyal became the Finance Minister and was given over 12 central departments. In 2007, he became the Cabinet Minister and, in 2009, the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand State. He was chosen as a member of the sixteenth Lok Sabha of India from Haridwar with an unbelievable majority of MPs. Re-elected from this Lok Sabha in the year 2019, he has presently driven up the significant responsibility of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. The Education Minister of India, Shri. Ramesh Pokhriyal "Nishank" is also a spokesperson of the Haridwar constituency in the Lok Sabha.
In the past, he was front-selected to public office in the united Uttar Pradesh as a member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly from Karnaprayag constituency in 1991, beating a five-time Congress MLA. He was re-elected in 1993 and 1996 from a similar constituency. In 1997 he was designated to the position of Uttaranchal development minister. He was also a member of the Lok Sabha's 17th assembly and the chairman of the Assurance Committee. He was a member of the Legislative Assembly of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand for five consecutive terms from 1991 to 2012. In 2014, he resigned from the Doiwala and was chosen for Haridwar the Lok Sabha.

- Nishtha-a-National
A combined teacher education curriculum for 42 lakh teachers, school heads, faculty members, and educational administrators was propelled on 21st August 2019.
- Kendriya Vidyalaya
Inaugurated 16 Kendriya Vidyalayas and laid foundation stones of 4 Kendriya Vidyalayas, which declared the opening of 2 new Kendriya Vidyalayas.
- Integrated Teacher Education Program
Integrated teacher education programs (for both secondary and elemental subjects) were begun, and the process of encouraging applications from qualified institutions for the academic year 2020-21 has been achieved.
- School Education Shagun
An Integrated Online Junction began by Shagun on 28th August. Shagun is an overarching lead to enhance the school education practice by forming a linkage for all online gateways and websites associating with different Department of School Education and Literacy projects in the Government of India and all states and Union Territories.
- Indian Air Force Pavilion
The Indian Air Force Pavilion was introduced on 31st July 2019 by the Hon'ble Minister of Human resource development, Hon'ble Minister of State, and Air Chief Marshal, Shri BSDhanoa. The Indian Air Force also started its aviation simulator and most advanced 3D mobile entertainment instantly.
- Samagra Shiksha Jal Suraksha
Samagra Shiksha Jal Suraksha was launched on 9th August 2019. The aim is to preserve the 1-litre of water per student per day. This will save 365 litres in one year and3650 litres of water in 10 years. As an outcome, 10 Crore students will preserve 10 Crore litres in 1 time,3650 Crore in one year, and 36500 Crore litres in 10 cycles.
- Prime Minister's Research Fellowship
The Prime Minister's Research Fellowship Scheme is being brought up to produce opportunities for more major meritorious students.
- Education Quality Upgradation and Inclusion Project (EQUIP)
Finalizing the implementation plan for education policy, Education Quality Upgradation and Inclusion Project (EQUIP), developed after discussion with specialists (80) to take Indian higher schooling order to a global level.
- Stars and Stride
It's an Introduction of Science (STARS) and Humanities (STRIDE -Transdisciplinary Research) research scheme.
- Paramarsh
Scheme for mentoring NAAC accreditation aspirant Organizations. Handholding of NAAC accreditation by institutions of reputation to assist them in achieving more distinguished norms of higher education.
- Campaign To Fill The Vacant Posts
Throughout 1 Lakh, idle teacher posts have been recognized. (14000 from Central Government and 84000 from State Government) Of these, about 14,000 jobs are announced. Conversation with State Governments is undertaken.
