Closure of Schools Due to Rise in COVID-19 Cases Across the Country

Educational institutions in Bihar, including schools, colleges, coaching centres, and hostels, will remain closed until 21 January due to the rise in COVID-19 cases. The Bihar government announced that the schools and colleges would remain closed due to the rising COVID-19 cases in the state. “Covid cases in Bihar is on the rise, with the present number of active Covid cases in the state being 5785. Officials have registered 2379 fresh COVID-19 positive cases in Bihar as of 5 January 2022”, the data from the Bihar health department said.
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar said the administration has decided to shut schools for classes 1 to 8 in the Pune district until 30 January due to the rise in COVID-19 cases. “In view of the rising cases of COVID-19, we have decided to shut schools in Pune district for classes 1 to 8 till 30 January,” Pawar said. However, he added that online teaching would continue for these classes.
Other states such as Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, West Bengal, Karnataka, Goa, Haryana, and Telangana have decided to close the schools due to rising cases of COVID-19 and Omicron variant in the country. However, several states have decided to keep schools open for classes 10 and 12 due to upcoming board exams.
