DU VC Undergraduate curriculum framework will not reduce the workload of teachers. Check here to learn more details about it.
The Vice Chancellor of DU, Yogesh Singh, has completely negated the claim that the workload of teachers will be reduced with the implementation of the Undergraduate Curriculum Framework. He denied the claim by saying that everyone is making it a political issue. The new UGCF will start in the academic year 2022-23. The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 will formulate the line of UGCF. DU VC said that the undergraduate curriculum framework would not reduce the teachers’ workload.
But in the meantime, the teachers of mainly the English Department believed and claimed that their workload will be reduced by 30-40%. According to them, it’s going to be a massive reduction.
DU VC’s Opinion: Undergraduate Curriculum Framework Will Not Reduce the Workload
The Vice-Chancellor, Yogesh Singh, stated that the workload of a teacher would be calculated not based on a year but on a total of four years. He even raised questions about how the teachers even think that the workload will be reduced if the three-year course programme is stretched to four years. He further said that we should welcome the changes brought by government. We should not politicise everything.
He also said that the Executive Council decided not to displace any teachers. The decisions made by the administration will be based on a four-year undergraduate course. Meanwhile, in Delhi, more than 400 English teachers from Delhi University have requested VC to restore their workload. They fear losing their livelihood due to the “massively reduced” workload. Because in academic session 2022-23, the government will implement an undergraduate curriculum framework. DU VC ensured that the undergraduate curriculum framework will not reduce the workload of the teachers.
The VC assured that all the English teachers are going to remain in their respective departments. They will introduce skill courses English Communication Skills, Creative Writing and Conversations. Here, in these courses, English will be the primary language. Except for all these, the teachers of the English Department will be teaching value-added courses in English. He further added that English teachers will be needed to reduce the burden.
