GATE 2022 Examination Dates Released: Pattern and Eligibility Updated

IIT Kharagpur has officially announced the GATE 2022 examination dates. The entrance test will take place on 5, 6, 12, and 13 February 2022. In addition, a brochure containing further information will be available online shortly. The university has yet to specify the start date for GATE 2022 registrations. However, the board will release the GATE application forms sometime in September 2021. Applicants should continue to visit the official website (gateoffice.iitkgp.ac.in) for further notifications regarding the assessment.

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering is a national-level annual entrance examination. The test aims to facilitate admissions to master’s programmes encompassing the engineering, science, technology, and architecture streams. Additionally, GATE results are also used for PSU (Public Sector Undertaking) work recruitment. Moreover, candidates can obtain admissions to Doctoral courses in relevant topics using qualifying GATE scores.

GATE 2022 Updates: Subject Papers and Eligibility Criteria

GATE 2022 will feature two new subject papers, bringing the number of topic papers up to twenty-nine in total. Thus, candidates can also opt for GE (Geomatics Engineering) and NM (Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering) as assessment subjects for the exam. In addition, the examination board has expanded the GATE 2022 eligibility criteria. Hence, candidates with BDS and M.Pharm degrees are now eligible to apply to write the GATE. 

The director of IIT Kharagpur, VK Tewari, has commented on the updation in a press release. As quoted, “the two new papers will provide direct benefits to our graduates in these two areas. India especially needs a greater workforce with advanced capabilities regarding shipbuilding industries and geo-informatics.”
