IIT Delhi: The Only Indian Institute in Top 50 Times Higher Education GEURS 2022
Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (IIT-D) is the only institute in India that secured a place in the top 50 rankings of institutes for producing employable graduates.
The Times Higher Education (THE) has released this year's Global Employability University Ranking and Survey (GEURS) report, which features only one Institute from India in the top 50 rankings. IIT Delhi is the only institute from India that has secured the 29th position in the ranking. However, IISc Bangalore and IIT Bombay secure 58th and 72nd ranks, respectively. Furthermore, 7 more Indian Institutes feature in the top 200 ranks.

The GEURS 2022 report suggests that the overall ranking for different Indian Institutes has improved. The Indian Institutes improved their rankings, with IIT Bombay rising by 25 positions from last year. The other two Indian institutes that secured the top 175 rankings are IIT Kharagpur with 155 ranks and IIM Ahmedabad with 154th place, which shows improvement of eight and fifteen position, respectively. Amity University, Noida, secures 225th position while Bangalore University is at 242nd rank.
Overall, with 7 institutes in the top 250 rankings, India is on the 13th spot ahead of other countries such as Sweden, Hong Kong, Italy, and Singapore. Worldwide, the US tops the list of GEURS 2022 with 3 universities on the top, including Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) at the 1st spot, California Institute of Technology at the 2nd spot, and Harvard University. The US features 55 institutes in the top 250 rankings, followed by France with 18 and UK with 14 institutes. Singapore, the UK, and Japan feature one institute each in the top 10.
How Employable are Indians?
According to the worker-population ratio (WPR), In urban areas, the WPR for people aged 15 and above was 44.5% from July to September 2022, which was 42.3% during the same time in 2021. From April through June 2022, it was 43.9%. The WPR was 68.6% for males and 19.7% for women. In 2021, they were 66.6% and 17.6%, respectively. The Data shows that the unemployment rate for India from July to September has dipped marginally to 7.2%.
