ISC 12th Results 2022: CISCE Took Different Approach than CBSE in Results Formula
CISCE and CBSE boards kept different weightage for two terms of exams. Students and parents demand recalculation of CBSE results.
CISCE vs CBSE Results Formula – For the Class 10 (ICSE) and Class 12 (ISC) exams this year, the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE), in contrast to CBSE, has assigned equal weight to students’ achievement in Term 1 and Term 2 theory papers.
Only multiple-choice questions were on the question paper for Term 1 for both CBSE and CISCE. Both used the pre-pandemic exam forms for their respective term 2 exams. However, in the end, for Classes 10 and 12, the CBSE gave Term 1 (theoretical) exam performance a 30% weighting and Term 2 a 70% weighting. CISCE decided to give each term paper an equal amount of weight.
CISCE Board’s Results Consent 2022
When asked why CISCE took a different approach than CBSE, Gerry Arathoon, Chief Executive and Secretary of the Board, said, “Right from the start, when we announced that we were going to conduct two examinations for the academic year 2021-22, we had made it clear to the (affiliated) schools that each term would be accounted for equally.”
Sudha Sahay, principal of Shri Ram School (Aravali branch), seconded the above statement. “The Council had kept us informed on its course of action every step of the way. However, the weightage of either semester wasn’t something that was at the forefront of our minds since our students and teachers would have put in their best efforts throughout the year, regardless of what the weightage would have been. We prepared as per our standard protocol,” she said.
CBSE’s Results Consent 2022
CBSE’s decision to accord different weightage to the two terms was based on students’ feedback. Its press statement issued last Friday said, “The predominant feedback received after the term I (theory) examinations was that students were unable to perform their full potential in the term 1 examinations as they had to appear for an objective pattern for the first time in the board exams without any adequate precedent or practice.”
CISCE and CBSE Syllabus Pattern
The term-I board exams were held in November and December of last year, and the term-II exams were held in April and May of this year. Therefore, for the 2021–22 academic year, CBSE and CISCE established a split model with two terms. To avoid the cancellation of exams due to the pandemic, the board implemented this temporary solution.
