Madras Medical College Becomes Regional Training Centre for 15 Medical Colleges
Madras Medical College has been recognized as the regional training center for 15 medical colleges located in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala
Madras Medical College: The Health Minister, Government of Tamil Nadu, Mr Ma Subramanian, has announced that the Madras Medical College (MMC) has been recognised as the regional training centre for providing training to faculty members of 15 medical colleges. The Medical colleges are located in Tamil Nadu and the neighbouring states of Karnataka and Kerala. Moreover, he said another training centre would open in Madurai in two days.
The Minister, on Monday, inaugurated the regional educational training centre and several other facilities for the doctors at MMC and Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital. The training centre will facilitate faculty members of medical colleges to improve their knowledge and skills.
E. Theranirajan, dean of MMC and Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, reportedly said, “Till now, faculty members had to go to the Christian Medical College, Vellore, Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research for training.”
The construction of the regional training centre costs INR 18.50 lakh. The dormitory arrangement for examination invigilators was constructed at INR 3.80. lakh. The Visakha Board Office and a fish tank were constructed at the cost of INR 5.85 lakh and INR 6.80 lakh, respectively. Additionally, A special treatment room was built at the cost of INR 14.90 lakh.

More regional training centres for medical faculties
Seven private and four government medical colleges in Tamil Nadu have been identified as the regional training centres for medical faculties. Additionally, two medical colleges – Narayana Medical College and ACSR Government Medical College in Nellore in Andhra have been recognised. Akash Research Institute of Medical Sciences and East Point Medical College Hospital Research Institute in Bangalore have also been recognised.
