Maharashtra Colleges Likely to Reopen After 2 October
Maharashtra officials will likely announce a decision regarding the reopening of colleges and other educational institutions after 2 October.
The state of Maharashtra will likely announce a decision regarding the reopening of colleges, schools, and coaching facilities after 2 October. In the past month, several states across the country have started to allow colleges and other educational institutions to reopen. In response, Maharashtra has decided to withhold a final decision regarding offline classes until after Diwali.
The pandemic situation within Maharashtra is still a major cause of concern for decision-makers. The high-density, the unvaccinated student population is especially vulnerable to COVID-19. Thus, the state remains reluctant to reduce the lockdown level for schools. Furthermore, a recent study has shown that only 18% of the adult population has received a second dose of the vaccine.
Nevertheless, there has been a strong push on social media from students and parents for the option to attend in-person lessons. As the lockdown continues into the monsoon season, many have consistently encountered increased difficulties in attending virtual classes.
The MH Education Ministry will likely release a finalised plan after the holiday weekend for resuming in-person learning. Furthermore, it is expected that ministerial authorities will publish SOPs for the state to follow during the reopening process. Currently, the academic year for Maharashtra colleges will begin on 1 November. However, initial academics must take place entirely online, as the state is still under lockdown protocols.
