Maharashtra Schools to Reopen from 24 January 2022
ANI reported via a tweet that the Maharashtra government has decided to reopen Maharashtra schools for classes 1 to 12 from 24 January.
As per the latest report, the Maharashtra government has decided to reopen Maharashtra schools for classes 1 to 12 from 24 January. “From 24 (January), we will be reopening schools for classes 1-12 with COVID protocols; CM has agreed to our proposal: Varsha Gaikwad, Maharashtra School Education Minister,” ANI tweeted.
The Maharashtra Legislative Council from Aurangabad had written to CM Uddhav Thackeray requesting him to rethink the closure of schools and colleges. According to the MLC, parents are forcing boys to work in fields while girls are being married off at an early age. Hence, schools and colleges should reopen. He further urged the CM to resume offline classes with 50% capacity. Previously, the state government had decided to shut Maharashtra schools and colleges until 15 February 2022. However, after a section of parents filed a petition to resume physical classes and the recent letter by the MLC, the government decided to reschedule the reopening of Maharashtra schools.
Previously, Varsha Gaikwad requested the districts to make decisions on schools closing and reopening in their jurisdiction. Following the request, the government closed the schools in Maharashtra’s Mumbai for classes 1 to 9 and 11 until 31 January. Moreover, some parents also demanded the reopening of school as class 10, 12 exams are starting from 15 March.
