Ministry of Education Seeks Suggestions on National Curriculum Framework
Education ministry seeks ideas to create curriculum framework relevant to developmental needs of the learners.
National Curriculum Framework: The Ministry of Education held a meeting with senior officials of all ministries and departments, including NCERT, the Election Commission of India, ICAR, and DRDO, to take the process of extensive consultation for the development of the new National Curriculum Framework (NCF) based on the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 forward.
A senior MoE official told that “The meeting focused on how ministries and organizations can contribute in developing a curriculum framework that is responsive and relevant to the developmental needs and interests of learners at different stages of their development. The officials present were first briefed about how a curriculum framework is prepared, what are its deliverables, and what is expected from them.”
The officials also added that “Many areas of contribution were subsequently discussed, such as the rapidly changing technology, need for innovation and generation of new ideas, need to focus on crucial areas like climate change, future skill requirements, crucial factors for agricultural growth, knowledge of India, especially in those areas where India is at the forefront for instilling a sense of pride, assistive technology for inclusion, enriching subject knowledge with real-life information, how to promote multilingualism, and integration of sports, fitness, and arts.”
Anita Karwal, Secretary of the Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSEL), Ministry of Education (MoE), was the chairperson of the meeting. The meeting’s main topic was how ministries and organizations can assist in creating a curriculum framework that is responsive and relevant to the interests and developmental needs of students at various stages of development. All ministries were required to submit written inputs.
Early childhood care and education, foundational literacy and numeracy, competency-based education, flexibility in choosing subjects in secondary classes, curriculum reduction to core essentials, reimagining vocational education, and identification of core skills and content were some of the NCF’s key deliverables that were covered in detail during the meeting.
Inclusionary education, multilingualism, integrating knowledge of India, citizenship, values such as respecting public property, caring for the elderly, caring for children with disabilities, promoting health and well-being, sports and physical education guidance and counseling, and community involvement are also included.
Utilizing the Department of Science and Technology’s (DST) innovation ecosystem; comprehending the work that goes into agriculture to provide food; the significant role Gram Panchayats play in ensuring enrollment and retention in schools; the significance of instilling volunteerism in young children; the necessity for every child to engage in activities related to physical health and well-being; focusing on Divyang children; and exposure to new technology from a young age, etc. were discussed was discussed in the meeting.
