Reasons Against The Deferment of the Scheduled NEET PG 2022
Despite big claims by many students and medical associations, there are still a few doctors against the postponement of NEET PG 2022. They believe the exam and other proceedings should happen at the allocated time so that the succeeding academic schedule is not hampered like last year. Their stand is based on the following guidelines:
- PG students comprise the Resident Doctors at hospitals as part of the curriculum. However, due to the gap in the schedule last year, hospitals saw a shortage of resident doctors. These doctors form the backbone of our country’s medical community. Dealing with a shortage has been a task. Moreover, the medical community would like to stabilize the situation by proceeding as scheduled.
- Doctors also believe that Covid uncertainty is here to stay. Nobody can predict a lockdown or surge in cases now. However, after 3 years of the pandemic, we should aim to normalize things by sticking to deadlines and protocols. They suggest that it is time to reconcile the academic schedule.
- Many applicants who were allotted seats after the 2nd counselling round still applied for the mop-up round. Despite repeated instructions that no candidate can apply after seat allotment, many went ahead and applied either way. This led to cases of litigation between the students. Consequently, it delayed the admission proceedings. Doctors feel this was a gross mistake, and the medical fraternity should not suffer its consequences.
- Addressing those who complained about lack of preparation time between 2021 counselling and 2022 entrance, Doctors have stated that those participating in counselling sessions had prepared over a year ago for the same exam. Meanwhile, they also had the chance to revise the entire year’s exam contents. Hence, complaints about postponing the exam due to inadequate preparation time are poor excuses.
The matter has now reached the apex judicial court of India. The Supreme Court will preside over the matter and declare a verdict. Students can only prepare for the NEET PG 2022 and wait.
