NMC to Replace NEET PG, FMGE with National Exit Test From 2023
Per Section (15) 1 of the NMC Act 2019, NMC will perform a standard final year undergraduate medical examination, merging NEET PG & FMGE.
Per an RTI filed with the National Medical Council (NMC) on 23 August, the NMC will conduct a National Exit Test (NeXT) starting from 2023. According to Section (15) 1 of the NMC Act 2019, NMC will perform a standard final year undergraduate medical examination. The examination will formally award licenses to practice medicine and get registered under the State/National Medical Register. Furthermore, according to the same RTI reply, authorities will clear the exam’s modalities once the NeXT regulations come under implementation.
Consequently, Indian Medical Association-Medical Students Network’s (IMA-MSN) representatives met with the National Medical Council authorities on 30 August. The representatives presented their apprehensions about the NeXT exam. Here, authorities clarified that the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) New Delhi would collaborate with the National Medical Commission to conduct the combined Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) & NEET-PG exams.
Thus, the NeXT exam will accord licenses to final-year MBBS graduates in the country. Furthermore, speculators say that the NeXT qualification will guide PG and diploma course admissions offered by different institutes.
