No Proposal to Establish New IIT: The Ministry of Education has already said that there is no proposal to establish a new IIT in the country. The Union’s Ministry of State for Education, Subhas Sarkar, shared the information with Lok Sabha.
He negated the statement and said there were no proposals to establish any new IIT colleges in the country. In 2014-15, the government has already set up five new IITs in Kerala, Goa, Jammu & Kashmir, Chattisgarh, and Andhra Pradesh. In 2015-16, the government announced the upgradation of the Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad into an IIT and the setting up of an IIT in Karnataka.

Subhas Sarkar said that in 2015 new IITs at Tirupati and Palakkad started their academic session. In 2016 IITs at Bhilai, Goa, Jammu, and Dharwad started their academic sessions. In the state of IIT Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, and IIT (BHU), Varanasi is operational.

The government has also approved six new IITs which are operational from their campuses. These are are temporary and are built at a cost of INR 1,411.80 crore. Later, the government established IITs under Phase A at a cost of 7,002.42 crore. They have subsumed the balance cost of the funds approved for the temporary causes.
The education minister further in the Lok Sabha said that the centre had requested to build an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
