The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, MK Stalin, has officially announced the class 12 evaluation criteria. On Saturday, 26 June, the CM notified the public of the framework release for Tamil Nadu class 12 students. The government has officially repealed the 2021 class 12 board exam due to the pandemic in June 2021. The cancellation occurred soon after repeals were successively notified across the country from boards such as CBSE and CISCE. Thus, the government had formed a high-powered 10-person panel to formulate a system of evaluating students. The committee featured notable members such as the VC of Madras University and the Department of Higher Education Principal. Hence, the panel has recommended the current evaluation criteria in the report submitted to the state.
During a press conference, CM Stalin stated the process for compiling the 2021 class 12 results. There are three segments of weightage in the class 12 evaluation scheme. The CM said that the new criteria would grant fifty percent weightage towards the student’s class 10 board exam marks. The class 10 exam performance used will be an average of three subjects with the highest scores. Secondly, the final score will obtain twenty percent (in each subject) weightage from the plus one (class 11) board exams. However, students who have failed class 11 exams will receive 35 percent of the plus one score. Finally, the score will derive thirty percent from class 12 internal examination and practical assessment scores.
Tamil Nadu Class 12 Alternate Testing Opportunity
As per the Supreme Court’s order, the board will compile and publish student evaluation scores on the official website by 31 July 2021. Afterwards, the government will provide an alternative examination opportunity for students not satisfied with the criteria. Furthermore, testing will take place when conditions are favourable. Hence, the timetable will be published later. Additionally, the board will record any marks scored in these exams as final.
