TNAU Launches Diploma Programme in Agricultural Engineering: Read in Details
TNAU launches Diploma Programme in Agricultural Engineering to Increase employment. TNAU has also signed an MoU with ITC.
Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) at Agricultural Engineering College and Research Institute, Kumulur, commenced the first of its kind Diploma in Agricultural Engineering programme. Launching such a programme was to initiate more employment in this sector. Moreover, it will bring great exposure for the agricultural engineers, and they will get a huge opportunity to interact with the farmers at the grassroots level.
TNAU Agricultural Engineering Programme Objective
Recently, the TNAU Agricultural Engineering programme was inagurated by TNAU Vice-Chancellor V Geethalakshmi. The VC shared that the programme would help generate employment and take agricultural engineering to grassroots-level farmers in Tamil Nadu.

TNAU Agricultural Engineering Programme Details
The two-year course will have a capacity of 40 students per batch. The eligibility criteria is that the candidate must have plus two qualifications. Under this programme program, students could learn different aspects of agricultural engineering, including farm mechanisation, soil water conservation, food processing, and renewable energy engineering.
Besides, farmers will enjoy several benefits while carrying out farm activities. The programme focuses on the complete farm mechanisation of all crops to overcome labour shortages.
TNAU Club Activities and Integrated Farming System
Apart from academics, there are students’ club activities, an integrated farming system, and a student cafeteria for the overall development of the students. Other facilities for the new programme include lecture halls, labs, fields and hostels. This will ensure that students get exposure to essential practical field activities to understand the dynamics of different crops.
TNAU Signs MoU with ITC
TNAU inked a Memorandum of Understanding with ITC to continue the diversified conglomerate’s objective to optimise crop water usage. As mentioned in the agreement, TNAU will be the technical partner of ITC and act as an agent to create better awareness among the farmers to save water through the introduction of different agronomic practises and irrigation-efficient technology, the varsity said in a press release. As a result, ITC has saved 8.5 cubic metres of water via optimising water usage in the Karamadai catchment in the Coimbatore district.
