TNEA Counselling 2022-Statistics
According to T Purushothaman, secretary of TNEA, out of the total applications, 1.5 lakh have paid for counselling, and 1.35 lakh have uploaded their certificates. The deadline for applying for engineering admissions is July 27. Around 1.74 lakh students registered last year, but only 1,39,033 of them paid the fees and took part in online counselling.
Earlier, TNEA received 1.91 lakh applications for engineering counselling in 2014, which was the highest number of applications ever. “After several years of a downward trend, more students applied for engineering counselling in 2022, which also indicates a decline in interest in courses in basic science.” said career consultant Jayaprakash Gandhi. He also added that TNEA Counselling is receiving applications from NEET aspirants due to the increased career opportunities in the information technology sector.
“More admissions in high and mid-level engineering colleges will help them financially, and they will be able to offer quality engineering education,” said Anna University former vice-chancellor E Balagurusamy.
