The Jammu and Kashmir Tribal Affairs Department will provide free coaching for tribal students from Jammu & Kashmir for NEET and JEE exams.
The Tribal Affairs Department for Jammu and Kashmir has started an initiative to provide free-of-cost coaching for high-achieving, meritorious tribal students from Jammu and Kashmir to prepare for NEET and JEE entrance exams. As reported by an official of the department, the Tribal Affairs Department of Jammu and Kashmir will sponsor the course fee, and the candidates qualifying for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) will also be awarded a scholarship.
Tribal Affairs Department Secretary Shahid Iqbal Choudhary announced that 100 tribal students are selected for NEET coaching in government-impaneled coaching institutes under two sub-schemes. The education wing of the Tribal Research Institute will implement two sub-schemes, i.e., ‘Host-50’ for hostellers and ‘Top-50’ for remaining tribal deserving students in the first year.
After verification of attendance and evaluation, the department would cover the cost for NEET and JEE Mains coaching at select institutions. The candidates selected for courses like MBBS, BVSc and AH, BDS, BAMS, BE, BTech, and other professional courses shall be provided with an annual scholarship of Rs 70,000-75,000 totaling around Rs 4 lakh, he said.
Lt Governor Manoj Sinha had recently said the Jammu and Kashmir administration accords top priority to the education of tribal students and is launching many schemes to provide and support their quality education. The secretary said that in line with schemes like Technology-Enabled Education Scheme, enhancement of diet charges, and hostel tuition rates, the tribal affairs department had launched NEET/JEE coaching scheme immediately.
Deputy Director (Administration), Tribal Research Institute, Abdul Khabir, said under the ‘Top-50’ sub-scheme, applications have been invited from meritorious tribal students, and 50 students with the highest marks, above 80 percent in the Class 12 board exam, will be selected for coaching.
Under the ‘Host-50’ sub-scheme, students enrolled in hostels will be selected through a screening test, Khabir said. The department has notified 50 percent quota for girl students under the hostel category while 25 percent seats are reserved for girls in the ‘Top-50’ scheme for NEET, adding that there is no income bar for the coaching scheme.
