UGC Guidelines for Students Aspiring to Pursue Simultaneous Degree Programs
UGC has issued guidelines for students to pursue simultaneous degree programs. These guidelines have already come into effect from the date of their notification by the UGC,i.e., Sep 30..
The University Grants Commission has issued UGC guidelines allowing a student to pursue two academic degrees in physical mode. A student can now pursue two full-time academic programmes in the physical mode provided that, in such cases, class timings for one programme do not overlap with the class timing of the other programme. This guideline does not apply to PhD programmes.
As per the guidelines, "A student can pursue two full-time academic programmes in physical mode. " These guidelines will come into effect from the date of their notification by the UGC, which is Sep 30, 2022. In its letter to the HEIs, UGC said: " All the Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) we're requested to devise mechanism through its statutory bodies for allowing students to pursue two academic programmes simultaneously. In the larger interest of the students, implementation of the said scheme may kindly be ensured and expedited if not done so far. "
As envisaged in the National Education Policy 2020, the UGC guidelines stated that the objective of allowing a student to pursue two degrees simultaneously stems from recognizing, identifying and fostering the creative abilities of every student, with no separation between arts and sciences, between curricular and extracurricular activities, between vocational and academic streams etc. and enabling a student to study one or more areas of interest at an advanced level.
