Tips and Tricks to follow while preparing for Indian Institute of Art & Design Entrance Exams (iDAT and iMAT)

ENTRANCE EXAMS
To select candidates who possess the spark of creativity and the potential to excel in the world of design, IIAD conducts comprehensive entrance exams. These exams are instrumental in identifying the students who are passionate, innovative and well-suited for the rigours of design education.
IIAD Design Aptitude Test (IDAT)
The IIAD Design Aptitude Test (IDAT) is the first step in the admission process for undergraduate design programmes that includes communication Design, Interior Architecture and design, Fashion Communication and Fashion Design. The test is crafted to assess a candidate's creative and visual skills, cultural awareness, and logical thinking. The examination paper is a blend of visual tasks, writing assignments, one-word responses, and multiple-choice questions, challenging the candidates to showcase their multifaceted aptitude for design.
Once applicants have completed and submitted their application form, they can start preparing for the entrance exam. A counsellor will be assigned to every applicant and the IIAD counsellor will provide them with sample papers via WhatsApp and email. IIAD also conduct webinars for the candidates who will be taking the online test. Additionally, one day before the main entrance exam, IIAD arranges a mock test.
The applicant can choose to appear for the Idat entrance exam either Online or On-Campus (IIAD Delhi Campus)
For Online Entrance Exam
IIAD strongly recommends using a Windows-based laptop or system. Mobile phones and iPads are not allowed for the test. This helps us ensure that the test takers' computer systems are compatible and free from technical issues.
For On-Campus Entrance Exam
- Reporting Time: It is mandatory for all applicants to arrive at the examination venue at least half an hour before the scheduled exam time. This allows for a smooth check-in process and ensures that the exams begin on time.
- Assigned Desktops: Each applicant will be assigned a desktop computer for the examination. These desktops are provided to ensure a standardised testing environment and to maintain the integrity of the exam.
Apart from the IIAD webinar on "How to Take iDAT and iMAT," IIAD also hosts online Q&A sessions facilitated by our experienced counsellors. These sessions are open to both current applicants and future candidates, providing a platform for individuals to seek clarification and receive guidance regarding the admission process and any other entrance exam-related inquiries.
All applicants must carry their printed admit cards and government-issued ID proof to take the offline exams. These documents are essential for verification and identification.
IIAD Management Aptitude Test (iMAT)
The Fashion Business Management (UG and PG) programmes at IIAD follow a two-step selection process. It commences with the iMAT exam and is followed by a personal interview. The iMAT is a written test designed to assess an applicant's language proficiency, logical reasoning and creative thinking through multiple-choice questions and writing tasks, ensuring their ability to engage with the multifaceted aspects of the fashion business. After completing the iMAT written test, a personal interview allows students to demonstrate further their potential, passion, and readiness for success in the field of fashion management.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
At IIAD, inclusivity and diversity are cherished values. To ensure that creative minds from diverse backgrounds find their way to IIAD, the eligibility criteria for both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes are designed to be inclusive.
Undergraduate Programmes
Candidates who have completed their 10+2 education or its equivalent in any stream—Science, Commerce, Humanities, or Arts—with a minimum aggregate score of 50% are eligible to apply. Moreover, those in the midst of their Class XII examination or awaiting results are welcome to apply. IIAD's doors are open to candidates from various educational boards, including CBSE, ISC, state boards, IB, or any other Indian or international higher secondary board of equivalent standing.
Postgraduate Programmes
For those planning postgraduate programmes at IIAD, a graduate degree in any stream or discipline from a recognized institute or university is the key to eligibility. Even final-year graduate students or those awaiting results can apply, ensuring that the pursuit of knowledge and creative excellence knows no bounds.
IIAD Scholarships
IIAD offers merit-cum-means scholarships to eligible students. All students who qualify for the IIAD Entrance Test are eligible to apply for scholarships. Information on how to apply for a scholarship will be provided to the students along with their offer of admission. Scholarships are granted based on several factors:
- Performance in the IIAD Entrance Test.
- The Statement of Purpose is included in the scholarship application.
- Demonstrated financial need of the student.
