The International Association Transport Association (IATA) is an association that was formed to safeguard the interests of all the airline companies that are registered under this association. It also ensures that the airlines in the association achieve a break-even point and do not incur losses.
About IATA
IATA, the International Air Transport Association, a trade association of the world's airlines, was founded in 1945. IATA acts as an association of all the airline companies in the world. It is a private trade association that promotes cooperation among all scheduled airlines by ensuring safe, secure, reliable, and economical air services.
IATA provides security in cargo and aviation, fleet planning, sales, airspace planning, airport operations management, etc. More importantly, it also regulates revenue, covering billing, financing, accounting, and currency clearance services.
What is International Air Transport Association (IATA)?
Flying is important to people. Every day and year, people from all over the world fly to different destinations. It is one of the most important modes of transportation available for public travel, defense, and other essential services. Every day 11 million people fly to places around the world, and 140,000 tons of cargo travel by air.
Air travel opens up a whole world of opportunities, connects people, connects the economy and develops markets, and, most importantly, contributes to economic development. Tourism is considered an important part of the country's economic development. As a result, many opportunities have been opened up in the tourism and tourist sectors, and the industry is growing tremendously.
The aviation industry has many other areas and sectors, such as tourism companies, tourists, government tourism departments, hotel chains, tourist guides, and the aviation industry.
Functions of IATA
Today, there are a total of 290 registered companies under IATA, representing 117 different countries. It can be called the largest association of airline companies in our world. IATA also takes part in policymaking regarding the airline industry of various countries. It makes sure that the policies are not too harsh on airline companies. Along with the policies, IATA takes an active part in deciding the price of the air tickets for passengers and the cargo.
It ensures that the companies do not increase the cost to a level unaffordable to common people. IATA decides the prices based on the economy of the state in which the airline company is operating.
IATA focuses on three major functions, they are,
Safety
It is known that the risk of air travel is much more than any other mode of travel. It is because air travel is considered to be the fastest mode of travel. Therefore, even the smallest mistake can cause the biggest possible disaster. IATA works all around the clock to make sure that all the registered airline companies adequately take safety measures. IATA also ensures that all the companies' aircraft are well maintained and repaired adequately before boarding the passengers onto them. As a result, we have seen very few accidents now.
There is only one accident in every 7 million flight takeoffs all across the world. It can be considered to be the achievement of IATA in its 60 years of supervision. Even though the number is meager, it is still considered fatal as a small accident can cause severe life loss and capital damage. IATA does all the necessary things to make sure that accidents are avoided at all costs.
Simplifying the Business
It is already a known fact that the airline industry has a massive amount of maintenance costs. The passengers' luggage is a big issue, as it has to be loaded into the lower decks of the aircraft separately. It is a mandatory maintenance cost that can not be avoided as of today, but in the future, if this process is automated, then the work of the employee to scan the luggage would be done by the machines.
So, if the airline company simplifies the business using modern techniques, it can drastically reduce its maintenance costs and workforce. IATA researches, tests, and launches different methods to reduce costs. Unloading and loading the cargo also is a very time-consuming process. IATA also does several other research programs to innovate new techniques to reduce the damages or simplify the business. If IATA approves one method, it has to be implemented by all the 290 registered airlines without any failure.
Environment
The environment is another aspect on which the IATA is highly concerned. Have you ever wondered about traveling at 40 Kmph on a bike? A liter of petrol will get you only 40 km of mileage, and if you want to travel at 800 Kmph, how much would the mileage be? Yes, it would be less than a Kilometer per liter. So, Air transport consumes a huge amount of fossil fuels. And this large consumption of fossil fuels will release large amounts of harmful gases into the atmosphere directly. Both these scenarios are very harmful to humans to survive on this earth.
IATA ensures that all the registered airlines use the latest technology engines in their aircraft to ensure that the fuel efficiency is maintained. It is also a scientifically proven fact that if the engine is old, then the fuel efficiency will be very low. So IATA makes sure that all the airlines maintain fuel-efficient engines.
