Nikhil Chacko's Student Experience Of Pursuing PGDM at JIMS

The transition from undergraduate to postgraduate life is a critical juncture for many students, initiating a voyage of self-exploration and professional growth. As recent graduates, we approach the PGDM program with mixed feelings of eagerness for a new chapter of our lives and nervousness for the challenges that stand ahead.

The initial phase is a whirlwind of new experiences as we immerse ourselves in a sea of projects, assignments, presentations, and exams every three months. What initially appears as a daunting task gradually transforms into a structured path of continuous learning. As we navigate through the demands of the program, completing one task after another, we find ourselves evolving professionally, often unaware of the significant strides we are making.

The second year of PGDM emerges as the litmus test, the culmination of all the hard work and dedication invested in the first year. The spotlight shifts to placements, a critical juncture that transforms classmates and batch mates from friends and acquaintances into competitors in a healthy, collaborative sense. The skills and knowledge acquired during the initial year become instrumental in the pursuit of securing a coveted position in a reputable firm. The camaraderie developed in the classroom extends beyond academic collaborations, fostering a spirit of friendly competition during placement season. Despite the competitive edge, the support system within the peer group remains intact, creating an environment where success is celebrated collectively. The journey towards placements not only refines professional skills but also fortifies the bonds formed during the academic pursuit.

Reflecting on the entire PGDM experience, it emerges as a joyous ride filled with invaluable lessons. Now, as I look back, it’s evident that this phase of my life was more than an academic endeavour. The crowning achievement was securing a placement in Asian Paints, a testament to the skills honed and the camaraderie that fortified my journey through PGDM.
