Application Process for International Students at Conrad Grebel University College

All transcripts from outside of North America must be evaluated by transcript evaluation services, such as World Education Service or Educational Course Evaluation, in addition to completing a full application. All official transcripts and official translations (if not in English) must be submitted, as well as a course-by-course international credential evaluation.

General admission requirements:

  • A four-year Honours undergraduate Program (a variety of disciplines are acceptable; Peace and Conflict Studies (PACS) graduates are not eligible for advanced placement) with a minimum average of approx. 75% in the final 20 courses is required.
  • The Admissions board has the right to require additional preparation for students without a considerable academic background in PACS or related programs. Completion of a specified e-learning course or module, undergraduate course(s), or other appropriate requirements may be part of this additional preparation.
  • Experience in the sector, while not required, will be considered favorably.
  • Required references and an interview for entrance into the program.
  • Applicants whose first language is not English must fulfill the minimum English language proficiency as determined by the UWaterloo graduate Faculty of Arts requirements.
  • Admissions deferrals and late entries will not be allowed.

Alternative admission requirements:

A limited number of mature students who do not meet the regular academic entry requirements of a four-year bachelor's degree or equivalent may be granted alternative admission by PACS. Standardized graduate entrance exams are not equally accessible and appropriate as the basis for admission. As a result, the Admissions Committee will be informed by the alternative admission standards listed below:

  • A minimum of eight years of field experience in peace and conflict resolution is required.
  • Transcripts and other records provide proof of successful involvement in post-secondary study.
  • References will be invited to comment on the applicant's academic and intellectual qualities as well as his or her ability to continue graduate studies in English.
  • Applicants will be interviewed to determine their potential to succeed in graduate studies as well as their contribution to the program.
