Established in 1925, Emily Carr University of Art & Design is one of the oldest post-secondary institutions in British Columbia. It is the only institute that focuses solely on professional education and learning in the arts, media, and design. ECU also has a broad range of labs and studios including Health Design Lab, DESIS Lab, and Print Media Studio. The namesake, Emily Carr emerged as a vanguard, an iconic Canadian female artist and writer, inspired by the Pacific Northwest environment with reverence for the rich indigenous rich cultures here. Emily Carr was an independent woman and a Westerner who gained prominence when Westerns Canadians and women artists were not recognized internationally.

The Financial Aid and Awards Office at ECUAD offers entrance scholarships to international students. These scholarships cover a significant portion of the first-year tuition fees of students. Several entrance scholarships ranging from $2000 to $5000 are awarded to international students to study at any level.
