Ottawa School of Art (OSA) offers specialized art courses including life drawing, landscape painting, photography, ceramics, sculpture, lithography, watercolor, etching, printmaking, and a wide variety of specialized short courses and workshops. There are courses even for children and teens. OSA also provides residence workshops, a one-year Portfolio Development Program, and a 3-year Diploma Program.
Ottawa School of Art was established as “Ottawa Art School” in 1879 through the Art Association of Ottawa. In 1977, it was renamed to Ottawa School of Art – Ecole d’art d’Ottawa (OSA).
Ottawa School of Art is a non-profit art school located in downtown Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It has 2 campuses: the Downtown campus and the Orleans campus. The main Downtown campus is located on George Street in Ottawa and the Orleans campus is at Centrum Boulevard in Orleans.
Ottawa School of Art is a member of the Council for the Arts in Ottawa, the Ontario Arts Council, the Ontario Ministry of Culture & Communications, the Canada Council, and the Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton.
Currently, the Ottawa School of Art provides a full range of specialized art courses in the Adult General Interest Category some of which include ceramics, etching, life drawing, lithography, landscape, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, and watercolor. It also includes a wide variety of short courses and workshops, for jewelry making, chalk pastels, mixed media, etc., and a few special interest courses like Art therapy and Creativity for Everyone.
Ottawa School of Art offers different courses and programs under four levels of instruction such as fundamental, introductory, intermediate, and advanced. The three years Fine Arts Diploma Program allows students to explore a variety of mediums such as photography, printmaking, sculpture, drawing, painting, and ceramics, building up to a studio concentration in one of those mediums along with mentorship opportunities and a graduate exhibition.

The other fee at OSA includes the residence cost and membership fees. The membership fee is $30 and the residence cost for a one-bedroom apartment in Ottawa costs between $14,675- $17,940 per annum. OSA does not provide on-campus housing facilities to the students. Books and other materials cost approximately $2500 and art supplies cost $1250 per term. The cost of the meal plan is $458.
