Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya [BCKV] popularly known as Bidhan Chandra Agricultural university is an agricultural university in West Bengal, India. BCKV was established in 1974 and has completed over four decades of its existence as the pioneer institute of Agricultural Education, Research and Extension. The University aims to provide higher education in theoretical and technical fields of Agriculture, Horticulture and Agricultural Engineering. It grants Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, Bachelor of Technology, Master of Technology and Doctorate degrees, thus provides modern and high value education to create scientists with the capability to work at national and international levels. It is also to conduct researches in these sciences and undertake the educational and extension programs in agriculture among the rural clientele base, keeping in view the requirements of the state.
Apart from three mainstream faculties the college have established few specialities like the Directorate of Research, Directorate of Farms and the Directorate of Extension Education in order to fulfil its objectives and to attain desired goals. There are three Regional Research Stations (RRSs) and three Regional Research Sub-Stations (RRSS) under the umbrella of the University to address agro-ecological region specific researchable issues of New Alluvial Zone, Coastal-Saline Zone and Red-Laterite Zone. Teachers of the University earn sponsorship for their research activities in the field of agriculture not only from ICAR but also from the CSIR, DBT, DST, ICARDA, CIMMYT, ISRO, INDICE and several national and multinational private organizations. The University has twenty two centers for AICRP/AINP (All India Coordinated Research Projects/Network Program) supported by Govt. of India (75%) and State Govt. (25%) which is noteworthy.

The college offers undergraduate courses such as Bachelor of Science in agriculture and horticulture streams. This bachelor’s degree is a four year program and the college takes in a limited number of 100 students only (may vary depending on the staff in each department) per academic year.
The Bachelor of Technology program offered by the college specializes in agricultural engineering. This program is a four year undergraduate program offered by the institution
PG Program:
The college offers postgraduate programs for a duration of two years in the science and technology streams. The Master of Science program is offered in agriculture and horticulture and the Master of Technology is offered under the Agricultural Engineering by the institution.
Doctoral Program:
The institute offers Doctoral programs under agriculture, horticulture and agricultural engineering faculties. The candidate interested in the doctoral program can select only one subject or department under a faculty.

The institution provides several facilities for the students creating a well balanced environment during their course of study. The infrastructure provided by BCKV includes a library, laboratories, hostel, playground, a medical unit etc. The Laboratories are well equipped with latest equipment for conducting all kinds of practical classes in various courses related to agricultural sciences. Specialized laboratory facilities of Mushroom cultivation, Tissue culture, Bio-fertilizers, Sericulture etc. are also available. Latest agricultural implements and machineries are also provided during various practical classes under Agricultural Engineering. The university has modest facilities for co-curricular and extra-curricular activities of the students to ensure all round development of the students. It has a gymnasium having an area of 465 m2 with modern facilities. Infrastructure for indoor and outdoor badminton and table tennis are available. A huge playground (14000 m2 ) for outdoor games like football, cricket, volleyball etc. is also utilized for holding sports meets. In addition, such facilities for games as Table Tennis, Chess, Carrom, Volleyball, and Badminton are also available in each Hostel. A few zonal athletics and games meet as well as Youth Festivals have been organized in this University too since its inception. The Central Library possesses around 80000 books and pamphlets, 350 Indian standards, around 25,000 Bound Journals, 3000 in-house Theses & Dissertations, 150 Cartographic materials, nearly 450 Non-Book Materials, 9900 Research bulletins, 37 Video Cassettes, etc. Yearly around 140 titles of Indian & Foreign Journals and 150 Annual Reports of several Institutions are added regularly. The Central Library has come under CERA consortium through which more than two thousand journals can be accessed online. Presently, the Central Library is running Automated Circulation & OPAC services. It has its exclusive 256 kbps Broadband VSAT connectivity with 14 nodes for catering internet facilities for the students and teachers. The University has had a medical unit since its inception with a Resident Medical Officer for the treatment of sick students of the hostel and provides medicines free of cost. Sick students of the Hostel are also sometimes hospitalized as per the recommendation of the C. M. O. of the University and a free ambulance facility is also available for this purpose. In case of any infectious disease, the students are shifted to the segregation/sick room.
A Training and Placement Cell has been established in the University to facilitate employment opportunities to the students in different Govt. and private sector organizations. It arranges lectures by inviting dignitaries from different organizations and functions as a platform for interaction between the Industry and Institute. The alumni of the institution are also invited to help in the qualitative improvement of the students for better performance during placement processes and drives. The University produces a good number of talented technocrats, to work in the different pools challenging the demands. The placement cell has made remarkable tie-ups with reputed national organizations to assist young technocrats to get suitable placement opportunities. Every year campus interviews are conducted by various organizations. The placement cell explores the opportunity for placing all its students in reputed corporates, industries, Govt. and financial institutions. Apart from this , for students from farming background, having a family business or planning to set up their own startup, special orientation programs are being conducted to help them achieve their aspirations and dreams.

The hostel facilities and other amenities of the students are looked after by the Dean, Students’ Welfare (DSW). He is the overall in-charge of the students hostel. Residing in the Hostel is compulsory and the students admitted in undergraduate courses are given hostel accommodation (Boys and Girls in separate hostels). Hostels provide facilities for extra curricular activities such as games, television, newspapers, magazines, besides other central facilities available in the University. The right of admission and continuance in the Hostels as a boarder are reserved by the University. Hostel rooms are given a few days before commencing the classes of the concerned courses. The University is residential and all students, both girls and boys, stay in the Hostel to attend classes from 7.00 a.m. to 5.30 pm. The undergraduate Boys and Girls Hostels are situated in the main campus of the University. The students residing in a hostel must abide by hostel rules and other instructions issued by the hostel authorities from time to time. Any breach of hostel rules or such other instructions will render a student to be liable to face disciplinary action.

Placements & Internships : The university offers graduation, post-graduation, and doctoral degrees. Most of the students either go for higher study or get a government job in the banking and agricultural sector. So the placement wing is not that much strong honestly. Some companies manufacturing fertilizers, pesticides and some other agro-based companies are invited to hiring an employee. Salaries offered by the companies vary with the qualification you have. A newly graduated student is offered a salary around INR 2-3 lakh per annum, whereas the highest package offered ranges between INR 5-6 lacs per annum.
Entrance Exams & Admissions : BCKV is a state agricultural university of West Bengal, and it has three different faculties offering courses on agriculture, horticulture, and agricultural engineering. Students must have 'Biology' in the subject combination during their 10+2 courses. Students from West Bengal can join agriculture and horticulture courses based on their marks of 10+2 board examination. Admission in agricultural engineering is made through the ranks of state joint entrance examination. Being under the umbrella of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), certain percentages of the seats are alloted for the students of other states cracking the ICAR UG (AIEEA) entrance exam. It has two sub-campuses within the state. Students of the other boards like CBSE or ICSE are alloted in the 'other board' category and get 4 to 5 % seats reserved for them. Students with a science background have to earn a minimum of 90% score to get admission in this esteemed university.
Fees & Scholarships : Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya, Haringhat Fee Structure. The course fee is about INR 20,000 per annum. The university has secured a position in the first 15 cheapest universities in India. As a government-run institute, course fees are unbelievably low. The hostel and mess fees are also very low. At present university is not providing any scholarship to the UG students. But they can apply for various government & private scholarships, and university plays a very supportive role in that case.
Academics & Faculty : The university follows a semester-based curriculum. Different modules specialized for different sectors of agriculture, and rural work experience (RAWE) are offered during the last few semesters. The theory classes and lab practicals occur from 11 am to 5 pm. Short terms, midterms, and end terms are the examination structure. It must be mentioned that all year round examinations are taking place here for the constant evaluation of the students. The faculty and lab technicians are quite knowledgeable and efficient in teaching. Many of the professors are well-known scientists in their fields. They offer their helping hands to the students in every aspect. I can assure you that studying at this university will be a memorable journey.
College Infrastructure & Hostel Facilities : Everyone praises the university for its aesthetic beauty and cleanliness. It owns a central library which is the largest among Asian countries. One can access the books, magazines, and theses from home also through Cera. The labs are well equipped and have all the facilities for running experiments. UG students get a chance to work by themselves in the labs under the supervision of technical persons. The classrooms are supplied with air conditioner, and PowerPoint facility and students are provided spacious hostel rooms with a private bed, cupboard, and study table. University buses are available for transportation, and the students can get sufficient scopes to endeavour theoretical and practical knowledge for their enhancing skills. Armed security personnel are appointed all over the campus, including the hostels.
Clubs & Associations : The university offers a very healthy social life along with vivid learning. Senior, junior relationships are nourished here, and lifetime bondings are created. Year-round cultural and sports activities are organised. Students get involved in all the programmes. They arrange from local festivals to big cultural events. All the branches of agriculture like horticulture, plant pathology, plant breeding, agronomy, soil science, agricultural entomology, biotechnology are available here. Lectures are very good and the practical work is done vividly and sincerely. students complete their PG with lots of help from the good lecturers. Every student of agriculture background passing their UG from west Bengal or from other states can apply for the college. only they have to complete their UG from any agriculture university. one may come through ICAR JRF exam or state university exam, which is held by the university itself. only agriculture students can apply for this.
Fees & Scholarships : The course fee/year - 3000 rupees only (including hostel fees it will be 8000 rupees only) There are madhab UTI scholarship, merit scholarship 50% of the BCKV students get scholarships.
Academics & Faculty : The classes started at 7 am and it continues till 4 pm. But not continuous classes. There is a break and both theory and practical work are done within this time. It is excellent. Teachers are very good in both teaching and help in any problems we face during the study. The experience in BCKV is very good. We can enjoy here a lot in practical work as well as in studying.
College Infrastructure & Hostel Facilities : For PG students in BCKV, there are two hostels. Hostels rooms are spacious, neat and good, the Hostel fees are 5000/- only per year. The hostel is so good. Near by all the necessary things are available. Some markets are also available. Food quality is good. It is taken as per messing per month. Maximum 1500/- rupees only. The classroom is good, they are Cleaned regularly. Lab facilities are good. The library is the central Library and the best one. But sorry no college wi-fi available. But we can get the connection from outside providers.
Clubs & Associations : in BCKV, TMCP is the main society here.T hey have a good relation with students and teachers. All festivals are observed by the students with great merrymaking. The function is also organized by the dramatic society. Sports are also held. College life is always good, whatever the situation are.Like that here life also going smoothly with lots of entertainment. A peace and calm atmosphere for study, a good understanding between students and teachers.

It is stretched in an area of approx 1100 acre comprising instructional farms, Faculty of Agriculture building, Faculty of Horticulture building, Faculty of Agricultural Engineering building, workshops, Central Library and much more. Admission in college is based on the WBHSE marks, Moreover, 15% seats are filled through central ICAR quota. For admission through ICAR one has to apply for AIEEA-UG held every year in April. Admission in B.Tech is through WBJEE exam and 15 % seats are filled through ICAR. Admission for PG and Ph.D. is based on the entrance exam after UG and through AIEEA-PG exams.
