Placements & Internships :
BITS has a great system for internships. There are two compulsory internships, called Practice School 1 and 2. Practice school 1 helps in the summer after the second year, while practice school 2 lasts for a whole semester in the fourth year. Companies also visit the campus in the first semester of the third year for summer internships after the third year which you can apply voluntarily. Most of those companies are in the IT field, although there are a few companies taking students for roles in core engineering.
Our placements happen over two semesters in the fourth year. The first semester is reserved for electronics, mechanical and chemical profiles, while the second semester features companies in non-core domains like data analytics. IT/software profiles visit the campus in both semesters.
Our highest salaries can go up to 30 LPA CTC (and beyond), but they are usually around 10-15 LPA. Usually, over 90% of the batch gets placed.
Entrance Exams & Admissions :
Eligibility criteria are to score at least 75% in your 12th boards. I took the BITSAT exam to gain admission. It has five sections: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English, and logical reasoning. For Electrical and Electronics Engineering, my cutoff was 331, but it usually varies from 320 to 330.
Fees & Scholarships :
Birla Institute of Technology and Science, [BITS ] South Goa Fee Structure. The fee for my course is Rs 2,00,000 per semester.
While that may be a teeny bit on the higher side, a lot of scholarship options are available. Most common, are the MCN (Merit cum Need) and merit-based scholarships. There are criteria to qualify for each scholarship.
Also, loans are easily available at nominal interest rates from SBI.
Academics & Faculty :
Our daily academic schedule is from 8 am to 5 pm. BITS offers a lot of flexibility in choosing our professors, electives, timings, and so on. It's one of the best things about studying at this institution. You can choose whatever timing suits you and your routine. Moreover, we have a zero attendance policy. One caveat here: Depending on the professor/ course, there might be a weightage of attendance in your final grade, and you need to attend your labs. All zero-attendance means is that there is no minimum attendance threshold for attending your final end-semester exams.
The quality of teaching varies from below average to amazing, just like in any other college. The quality of most of the faculty in the electronics department hovers around average. But you'd have to work hard to succeed in the electronics branch, harder than other branches.
College Infrastructure & Hostel Facilities :
There are 17 boys hostels and 2 girls hostels. Most of the rooms are single rooms, although you might get a two-sharing room in your first year at least. All the students compulsorily have to stay on campus except in certain cases when their family stays in Goa. We have three dining halls and numerous eateries on campus. The food is not spectacular, but better than you'd expect from a college mess. The mess fare is already paid for in the semester fee. They also become night canteens from 11 pm to 2 am, in case anyone has any late-night cravings!
Our classrooms and labs are air-conditioned and well maintained. We have a huge library as well. WiFi is usually satisfactory, but we sometimes have speed issues. There is also a daily data limit of 3 GB (increases to 5 GB during exams), and many websites are blocked.
Clubs & Associations :
We have a plethora of clubs on campus catering to every interest a student could think of. We have both performing(music, dance, drama) and non-performing clubs(finance, consulting, robotics) clubs. Then there are departments, which handle fest-related matters. We have three fests: Waves (cultural), Quark (tech), and Spree (sports). Needless to say, Waves is the biggest and grandest fest.
