Library

The description of the college remains incomplete without a mention of the Central Technical Library, the main information bank for the students and the faculty. The library has a main lending section consisting of over 23000 books and a reference section of another 2000 books covering, beside the core branch subjects, topics on management, computer, higher education and industry.

It subscribes to a range of journals and periodicals of national as well as international repute. There is also an audio-visual section in the library, which maintains videocassettes and CD-ROMS on an array of engineering topics and lectures by eminent personalities. In addition, another branch of the library stocks the project and seminar reports of students. Provision for a separate section devoted to arts and literature is also available.

Hostel

The college has four hostel blocks - two each for boys and girls, each with an intake of about 150 inmates. The Ladies' Hostel is opposite to the college campus and the Men's Hostel is at a walkable distance. The college bus is also available for hostel inmates. The hostel has a reputation of providing one of the best mess in Kerala, with minimum expenses. The hostel provides a homely atmosphere ideal for studies and recreation.

Both the hostels also provide sports facilities and health care viz basketball courts, exercise equipment, volleyball courts etc. Facilities for entertainment are also provided with a stocked literature and technical library. Admission to the hostels is confined to the students of Government College of Engineering, Kannur. Students are admitted to the hostel according to the rules framed by the college council. The mess committee is selected from the inmates from time to time and is in full charge of running the mess.

Gathering Halls :

College has 2 open air auditoriums with a seating capacity of about 1000-1500. We also have a seminar hall in the main block with public addressing system , projectors and other facilities. Main blocks also has a separate conference hall aiming the administrative purposes. Departmental blocks have their own seminar halls .All seminar halls are equipped with excellent furniture and equipments like LCD & OHP projectors

Sports Facilities

Gcek believes in poised personalities and that is why we have been provided with best sports facilities . This sector includes facilities and play grounds for sport events viz cricket, football, volleyball, basketball, badminton , table tennis and also indoor games like caroms and chess. Guys in here are fortunate as they have a multi functional gym. Main ground is also the venue for the track and field events of annual sports.

Transport

The college provides bus facilities to students and staff. At present the college has three buses and they operate from Kannur and Payyannur to the college. The day-to-day administrative matters pertaining to the bus is generally seen by the bus secretary. There is a bus committee constituted by the principal to decide the matters related to the timings, routes, charges etc. Sri Sooraj P. Lecturer is the bus Bus secretary.

Co-Operative stores

A students Co-operative Society, named the Government College of Engineering Students Co-operative Stores Ltd. (No. C1020), Kannur has been functioning in the college for supplying books, stationary and educational accessories to the students. Sri. K.V. Narayanan, Selection Grade Lecturer is the staff member in charge.

Canteen :

The college canteen is run on a co-operative basis from 1995 onwards, with the active involvement of students and staff. Sri. Y.V.Sukumaran, Selection Grade Lecturer is the convener of the committee.

Central Computing Facility

Apart from mini computer labs provided in each departments Govt. College of Engineering , Kannur has a centralized computer centre to cater the more advanced needs of the students and faculty . The centralized computer center provides sufficient computing facility for the students and staff of Department of Computer Science & Engineering. The Lab has 72 nodes connected wirelessly operating on D-Link network at a speed of 20Mbps. Students can utilize computers running on the latest hardware and Operating Systems. The lab is adequately supported by peripherals like DMP, Printers, Scanners and more. The Central Lab is open from 8am to 8pm throughout the year. The systems are equipped with latest software necessary for the students which include PowerBuilder, Sybase, Visual studio beside AutoCAD and Matlab. The centre is not only a workstation for the students to sharpen their computer skills, but also is a hub of guidance & support for the students taking up projects in the software field.
