The Indian Statistical Institute (I.S.I.), founded by Professor Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis grew out of the Statistical Laboratory set up by him in the Presidency College in Calcutta. Regarded by the Act of Parliament, 1959 as an Institute of National Importance, Indian Statistical Institute Mumbai is a part of the majestic group that provides research, training, analysis, data collection, and surveys in various areas such as operations management, economics or statistics. To take admission in ISI Mumbai, students have to appear and clear an entrance exam. The candidates are shortlisted based on their scores in the ISI Admission Test, who then called for a round of interviews.
