Industrial Design Center (IDC) is a pioneer design institute that offers modern amenities to students for holistic development. The campus is equipped with a library, labs, and studio. More details regarding the IDC IIT Bombay facilities are given below.

Laboratories

  • The Ergonomics Laboratory researches the human-machine interface.
  • A wide range of products and machines can be evaluated for ergonomic suitability here.
  • The usability laboratory is equipped to conduct studies and evaluate a user-centred design.
  • The rapid prototyping laboratory can create physical objects directly from CAD models.
  • The FDM (RP) machine is available for experimentation and product development in collaboration with the Mechanical Engineering Department at IIT Bombay.

Library

  • The library of IDC IIT Bombay is well-stocked with design books and publications.
  • It subscribes to all major international design journals and magazines. Design, graphics, photography, cinema, type design, typography, graphic design, ergonomics, design management, product design, environment design, interaction design, and more are all covered. Films, CD ROMs, video cassettes, and DVDs are among the items in the collection.
  • The IDC IIT Bombay library also keeps copies (since 1969) of all student project reports, publications and reports on many of the projects, workshops, and seminars held at the institute. It provides free access to any book or magazine and is open at night three times a week.

Studio

  • The college has fully equipped materials-focused studios such as the Metal Studio, the Wood Studio, the Plastic Studio, and the Ceramic Studio, all of which can produce scale models and full-size prototypes.
  • The Photo Studio offers full-service colour and black-and-white photography. Digital equipment is included in video facilities.
  • The Media Studio has an interface, digital video, sound, editing, multimedia workstations, and dual monitors and tablets for each terminal. PCs and Apple Power Macs are among the computers available.
  • The Animation Studio has both 2D and 3D workstations. Working with Maya and Animo is supported by large-size scanners and a digitising table.
  • The Print Studio offers type design as well as publication design services. It has its own offset printing studio, which is supported by DTP and Font design software.
