Jamshedpur Womens College was established in the year 1953 by Mrs. Perin C. Mehta. The college was established to ensure women empowerment in its true essence which would bring about self reliance in both financial and social levels. JSR Women's College is an autonomous institute affiliated to the Kolhan University. It is a constituent college of the same. The college promotes all round sustainable and ethically accepted growth of students and teachers as well in harmony with national economic policies and educational objectives.
The college is recognised by the University Grants Commission which confers the status of a center with potential for excellence. It is awarded grade 'A' by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council. The college provides value based, scientifically oriented, and intellectually stimulating, globally acknowledged vocational course content.
The college campus is spread over an area of 6 acres comprises five blocks of buildings housing the faculties of education, Science, Arts and Commerce, an indoor stadium, and a library. The college is very active in other activities through the NSS, NCC the Eco club, the Rotaract club and several clubs run by the departments. The college makes its students fully equipped to face the challenges of globalization in all sectors ranging from I.T. to culture.
The college provides education, all round development of the students and enhancement of employment potential with special attention to the SC ST students. Jamshedpur Womens College admission happen in all three faculties of Science, Commerce and Art at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The College has launched several self-financed vocational, professional and add-on-courses, relevant to the regional and national needs to ensure that students get fully versed in the latest trends, technologies and techniques and to galvanize its motto of women's Empowerment.

The college set up its Career Counseling and Placement cell in the year 2003. The cell actively arranges placements and tries to bring major companies on board for placements.
