Karnataka State Music University established on 14 February 2008 is a public university dedicated solely to the study and research of music and performing arts. It was founded by the Government of Karnataka. It operates from a heritage building (its temporary campus) in the Lakshmipuram area of Mysore. It is named after Gangubhai Hangal.

Karnataka State Music University offers diploma,  undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral courses to students. KSMU admission is merit-based.
