North Orissa University was established in the year 1998 by the Government of Odisha. The university was included in the UGC’s list of Indian universities under 2 (f) and 12 (B) with effect from 15.02.2000 and 21.06.2006 respectively. North Orissa University Directorate of Distance Education and Continuing Education was established with the objectives of providing quality education to all sections of students. The college is now open for various PG and UG courses under some very basic and mandatory eligibility criteria. It aims in providing reliable and useful knowledge to the students which may help them in the future.
The college is open to various UG and PG courses. Courses are conducted under on/ off - Campus-Distance Learning (OCDL) mode. Under such learning mode, the students are given education through study centres. North Orissa University, Directorate of Distance And Continuing Education admission offers B.A, B.Com, and B.Lib.Sc. as Undergraduate courses and MBA, M.A, M.Sc, and PG Diploma as courses on the PG level.
The university offers three years B.Com., BA, and one-year B.Li.Sc. program in distance mode. There is a marked shift in the Government’s approach from the mode of higher education to higher education through distance learning mode. The most important aspect is the introduction of various professional courses in distance learning mode to cater to the needs of the increasing demand in the job market.
