Laboratories:
There are 5 types of laboratories at SCPR. They include:
Pharmaceutics Division:
General Pharmacy/Community Pharmacy Laboratory:
- The general pharmacy laboratory is planned for the formulation of oral liquids like solutions, syrups, elixirs, suspension and emulsions etc. and topical agents like ointments and cream etc.
- It is fully equipped with percolators, ball mill, suppositories moulds, ointment filling machine, collapsible tube crimping machine and glucometers.
Pharmaceutical Technology/Unit Operation Laboratory:
- The laboratory is stocked with various oral dosage forms like tablets, capsules, syrups, emulsions and suspensions, etc.
- They have topical agents like ointments and creams and various cosmetics products like shampoos, shaving creams, powders and lipsticks, etc.
- They have instruments such as tablet making machine, tray dryer, tablet coating and polishing machine, dissolution test apparatus, disintegration test apparatus, friability test apparatus, capsule filling machine, capsule counter, bulk density apparatus, ampoule filling and sealing machine, clarity test apparatus, double cone blender, humidity control oven, ointment filling machine, collapsible tube crimping machine, lipstick moulds, Reynolds apparatus, orifice meter, venturi meter, Bernoulli’s apparatus, manometers and centrifuge.
Physical Pharmacy/Biopharmaceutics and Pharmacokinetics Laboratory:
- The physical pharmacy helps the students understand the basic physiochemical properties of the drugs and it efficient design of dosage forms.
- The laboratory is well supplied with double beam UV–VIS spectrophotometer, Brookfield’s viscometer, Humidity control oven, Photocolorimeters, and Microscopes with a stage micrometre.
Pharmaceutical Microbiology Laboratory:
- The pharmaceutical microbiology laboratory helps the students in procedures such as sterility testing, growth, cultivation, isolation and identification of microorganisms in medicines, microbiological assays, etc.
- The laboratory is equipped with instruments such as autoclaves, centrifuge, laminar air flow bench, incubator, BOD incubator, antibiotic zone reader and colony counter etc.
Pharmaceutical Chemistry Division:
Physical Chemistry/Inorganic Chemistry Laboratory:
- The physical chemistry laboratory has a supply of high-standard instruments such as Refractometer, digital pH meter, Polarimeter, Conductivity meter, Potentiometer and Colorimeter.
Organic Chemistry/Medicinal Chemistry Laboratory:
- The organic chemistry laboratory is well equipped with facilities such as Precision Melting point apparatus, Distillation unit, Rectification unit, Oven, Muffle Furnace and Ion deionizer.
- They help the students practical training in Organic chemistry and Pharmaceutical Medicinal Chemistry for the synthesis and structural elucidation of medicinally important compounds.
Pharmaceutical Analysis/Biochemistry Laboratory:
- The biochemistry laboratory uses modern methods such as analysis and Good Laboratory Practices [GLP].
- The labs use equipment such as UV-VIS Spectrophotometer, digital pH meter, Polarimeter, Conductivity meter, Colorimeter, Karl-Fischer Titrator.
Central Instruments Laboratory:
- The central instruments laboratory includes apparatus such as HPLC, UV-VIS spectrophotometer, digital pH meter, digital conductivity meter, digital potentiometer, Fluorimeter, Nephelo Turbidity Meter and Flame Photometer etc.
- They ensure that they provide students practical knowledge in pharmaceutical and analytical chemistry.
- They assist the students in their research work.
Pharmacology Division:
Pharmacology Laboratory:
- The pharmacology laboratory enhances students practical training in pharmacology and chemotherapy, bioassays of various drugs, etc.
- They can carry out animal model experiments for analgesia, anti-histaminic, antipyretic anti-hepatotoxic, antiulcer, anti-inflammatory activity testing of known and new drugs of chemical and herbal origin.
- The labs have instruments such as Sherrington’s Kymograph machine, Perspex bath assembly, Rotarod, Analgesiometer, Acto photometer, Lucas moist chamber, Pole climbing apparatus, Convulsiometer, Plethysmograph, digital pH meter and Computer with LCD etc.
Animal House:
- The animal house at SCPR has a well-ventilated animal house.
- The hygienic animal house is designed according to Committee for the Purpose of Control And Supervision of Experiments on Animals [CPCSEA] guidelines.
- They have provisions for different animals such as rat, guinea pig, mice and rabbit etc.
Anatomy, Physiology and Pathophysiology Laboratory:
- This lab has a collection of instruments such as Medical Microscopes, Sphygmomanometers, Stethoscopes, Clinical Thermometers, Haemocytometers, Sahli’s Haemocytometer, Hutchinson’s Spirometer, Bone sets (Human), Human Skeleton, Human Torso, etc.
- They have various models and slides of Human Tissues, Eye, Ear, Heart, Brain, Lungs and Kidney.
Pharmacogency Division:
- The students can perform identification and evaluation of crude drug which is obtained from plant, animal and marine sources.
- The lab is equipped with facilities such as Projection microscope, Incinerator, Zone reader, Colony counter, soxhlet apparatus, Clevenger's apparatus, TLC kits, compound microscopes, stage micrometre, oculometer, grinder and distillation unit.
- The lab has the abundant source of herbal and medicinal plants.
- Some of the important herbs in SCPR are Aloe vera, Ashoka, Amla, Bael, Dhatura, Lemon Grass, Rauwolfia, Palash, Isapghol, Vinca, Giloy, Henna, Gudhal, Cardamom, Neem, etc.
Computer Division:
- The computer lab at SCPR is equipped with 40 computers.
- All the computers have the latest PIV hardware specifications and Relevant Legal System and Application softwares.
- The lab is facilitated with 24/7 internet connectivity with a band width of 2 Mbps.
