Drawing Hall:
Drawing is the non-verbal communication for engineers which represents the shape and size of the structures. In this laboratory various type of detailed drawings are prepared of different structural component. The Infrastructure facilities of the Drawing& Graphics Lab has been fortified to cater to the needs of the present strength of the students.The Drawing and Graphics Lab can accommodate more than 35 students at a time with each student working on individual workstations. The students are taught with outmost care by experienced Faculty and Technical Assistants.
This is where the students start their journey of fundamentals of Engineering Drawing by learning to depict Lines, then Lettering, Dimensioning, Plain scale, Diagonal scale etc. using Plain, Diagonal & T-Scale, next Geometrical construction of curves; polygons, parabola, hyperbola, ellipse with Set Square & French Curve; moving on to Projection of points, lines, surfaces; orthographic projection, 1st & 3rd angle projection, projection of lines and surfaces, Projection of solids like cube, pyramid, prism, cylinder, cone, Drawing isometric view from orthogonal/ sectional views of simple solid objects, full and half sectional views of solids, Development of surfaces like prism, cylinder, cone by means of Solid model of prism, Diagonal Scale, Master Circle, Set Square, Short & Long bow compass, Short & Long bow divider, Micro tip pencil, T-Square, Inside caliper & Steel scale. Finally they learn Computer aided drafting using Auto Cad software; accentuating on Cartesian and Polar coordinate system, absolute and relative coordinates; learning basic editing commands like line, point, trace, rectangle, polygon, circle, arc, ellipse, poly-line; followed by editing methods; basic object selection methods, window and crossing window, erase, move, copy, offset, fillet, chamfer, trim, extend, mirror; display commands: zoom, pan, redraw, regenerate; simple dimensioning and text.
The state-of-the-art Library of the Institute is a learning resource centre of the Institute that meets the requirements of the students and teachers with respect to the academic programmes and syllabi of WBUT. The Library provides them with modern and technologically advanced amenities with respect to books, journals, E-sources as well as live-coverage of special lectures and seminars.
Central Library:
The Library is situated in the heart of the academic complex of the Institute, in the Ground Floor of the main building. The Library has a collection of over 2000 titles and over 39,000 volumes. Besides the printed journals, the Library subscribes to several on-line IEEE, IET, WILEY and other journals and provides access to IEEE online database. The functions and services of the Library are fully computerised and the students are provided with digital library facility. Besides the general lending, the students are also entitled to accessing books from the Book Bank of the Library and retaining them for a defined semester. It has a well maintained stock of CD- ROMs, DVDs, Project Reports, Theses, and the like. The students are given access to fully automated circulation facilities through LIBSYS Software package (an integrated multi-user library system). The Library remains open even beyond the Institute hours for the benefit of students and teachers. Further, in order to promote awareness about the Library among the users, the Library organises Exhibitions on various subjects at regular intervals.
There are two green tops within the campus of SFGI, one adjacent to Meghnad Saha Hall of Residence and the other adjacent to Kalpana Chawla Hall of Residence. Outdoor games like football, crickets are played on these grounds. The indoor games like chess, table tennis, carrom are played in the common room. Very soon there is a plan to extend the sports facility by developing a volley ball court, a badminton court and a basket ball court.
Sports Facilities:
Apart from annual intra-college sports festival, inter-college sports carnival is also observed at SKFGI. The students are encouraged and also sponsored to participate in inter-college competitions organized by other colleges and universities. The result is a galore of success.
Seminar Hall:
An air-conditioned seminar hall with a seating capacity of 150 is available in the campus. This hall is fitted with permanent Audio, Video and Projection System. The seminar hall is regularly used for meetings, national and international conferences, training programs. External experts are regularly invited to deliver lectures on latest topics to our students some of which are organized in the seminar hall to give the students an exposure to the recent trends in technology. Faculty Development Programs are also conducted in the seminar hall, to update and enhance the Knowledge of our Faculty Members.
Workshop:
The first taste of hands on experience of essentials of manufacturing is obtained here. The workshop with a built up space of 2421 sq ft. is able to accommodate more than 100 students. The Infrastructure facilities of Workshop have been fortified to cater to the needs of the present strength of the students. There are various sections in the workshop. They are Welding, Carpentry, Forging, Milling, Lathe,etc. The workshop is equipped with latest instruments as per the guilines and requirement of AICTE and MAKAUT (formerly WBUT).Each student is provided with hands on experience under the supervision of experienced Faculty and Technical Assistants. The Safety rules issued by the University are strictly maintained in each lab while carrying out any experiment.
Video Conference Room:
Established in January, 2014, the Hall is equipped with high end Polycron Camera (Model HDX6000) and 40-inch LCD Toshiba Monitor and the other supporting peripherals. The facility is being used for the academic and research purpose as well as for the training and placement of students.
