South Calcutta Law College, being a government law college, charges the minimal fee one can think of while studying law. As per the South Calcutta Law College, Kolkata fee structure, we only pay 6,000 rupees per year which covers everything from Tuition Fees to Event Management charges. All government and private scholarships are available for the students here. Based on merit the number of students getting scholarships varies but each year quite impressive number of our students successfully brag about some prestigious scholarships.
Entrance Exams & Admissions :
Eligibility criteria to get into the B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) Integrated Course under the University of Calcutta is 10+2 from any recognized education board with minimum 45% in best of four subjects, excluding Environmental Studies. The minimum percentage to be scored by candidates from SC/ST/PWD is 40% in best of four subjects in 10+2.
Willing candidates must appear in the B.A. LL.B. entrance exam conducted by the University of Calcutta in order to get admitted into the course. Total 13 colleges under the University of Calcutta participates in the exam along with 4 government law colleges. There are no specific cut offs as the final candidates for admission are selected upon the results of the entrance exam and everyone can participate in the counselling process. However, government law colleges barely go beyond 480-500 rank.
Placements & Internships :
South Calcutta Law College has one of the best alumni networks as we have alumni like former SCJ Altamas Kabir, Shantanu Mukherjee (one of the leaders of the corporate law world). Even though we don't have any particular placement cell, the reputation of our college surely helps us to get any desiring internship or placements. Talking about myself, I am in the 4th year of my 5-years-course and I must say the past 3 years have been really productive for me in terms of paid internships.
Academics & Faculty :
South Calcutta Law College is a morning college. The college timings are Monday to Saturday 6:30 AM-10:30 AM. The timings are flexible for anyone doing internships or engaging in any other activities after college.
Projects and exams are held as per the routine by the University of Calcutta. We have some of the best teachers in the field along with several guest lecturers and practicing lawyers. The faculty of the college is comprised of experts and helpful people. The library has both digital and physical resources available for the students whenever they need it. Not to mention this college gives the top students in the whole university.
College Infrastructure & Hostel Facilities :
There are no hostel facilities available particularly for our college, but the University itself offers hostels for eligible students. Moreover, there are numerous PGs and other accommodation facilities easily available near the college.
The canteen food in the college is good. Classrooms are well designed after we have shifted to a brand new building. Other facilities like common room, seminar hall, well equipped library, Gym etc are available in the college.
Clubs & Associations :
Student associations like debate society, quiz club, cricket team, moot court society etc. are available in the College. Our College participates in various national competitions. Regular intra-college activities in respective associations are held.
