The Raj Bhavan released the notice regarding the matter after the high-level meeting chaired by Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, who is also the chancellor of state universities, came to a decision. The meeting was attended by the vice-chancellors of almost all state universities and senior officials of the education department. The meeting, which was concluded late in the evening of Thursday, decided to follow the recommendations of the National Education Policy 2020.
As per the official announcement, 4-year bachelor's degree courses under CBCS and the semester system will be introduced in the coming academic session (2023-27). Universities will start their admission process in the first year of introducing the CBSC and semester system. However, starting the next academic session, there will be a centralised admission process, and all universities will come under that process. Furthermore, a committee of experts will decide the curriculum for the first year of the new system.
A senior official of the Bihar education department said that the revised course would impart training in skill development right from the first year. Further, he stated that the UG courses under CBSC would be divided into 8 semesters. However, the students will be awarded a certificate after completing one year of two semesters.
The Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) will allow students to choose inter-disciplinary, intra-disciplinary courses, skill-oriented papers, and even from other disciplines per their learning needs, interests and aptitude.
