Bombay High Court Rejects JEE Main 75% Eligibility Criteria 2023 Plea

JEE Main 75% Eligibility Criteria 2023: The Bombay High Court rejected the PIL challenging JEE Main eligibility criteria 2023 on May 3, 2023. The authorities remarked, "We cannot consider at this stage...It is for the government to decide" and left the decision for JEE Main 75% eligibility criteria 2023 within the government as the JEE Mains exam is a pan India examination.

Per the decision, the JEE Main 75% eligibility criteria for 2023 remain the same. Therefore, the students must score 75 per cent marks in their board exams or are in the top 20 percentile of their respective Boards to be eligible for admission to the JEE Main 2023 participating colleges.

The petition's purpose was to give the students with less than 75% marks who performed well in JEE main 2023 a fair chance. Further, the plea for JEE main 2023 eligibility criteria was filed by Advocate Anubha Sahai on behalf of the students urging relaxation in the required qualifications.

Note: The JEE Main 75% eligibility criteria 2023 was temporarily relaxed during the COVID years. Subsequently, as the board exams commenced, NTA restored the 75 per cent criteria.

The National Testing Agency claimed that keeping the 75% cut-off percentage was a conscious and well-considered decision. Further, the decision was made with the approval of JEE Apex Board (JAB). 

Note that a division bench of Acting Chief Justice SV Gangapurwala and Justice Sandeep V Marne dismissed the JEE Main 2023 eligibility criteria. Additionally, NTA referred to the relaxation of the JEE Main 75% eligibility criteria 2023 for previous academic years as a one-time measure.
