Delhi University to Add 24 value addition Courses on emotional intelligence and Indian fiction to develop critical thinking.
Delhi University to add value-Addition Courses: Delhi University is all set to start new value-added courses on topics like emotional intelligence, Indian fiction from the new academic session 2022-23 as part of the Undergraduate Curriculum Framework-2022 (UGCF). Some of the courses include such as Art of being Happy, Financial Literacy and Ethics, Vedic Mathematics and many more.
The proposal to add 24 similar courses was approved in a recently held DU academic council meeting. Now the proposal will be presented to the executive council.
DU to add value-Addition Courses: Highlights
Students can include one or more such value-added courses per semester. Emotional Intelligence, Art of Being Happy, Financial Literary and Ethics, Vedic Mathematics, and the Value of Indian Tradition System are a few of the courses offered. The value addition course committee, which is led by professor Niranjan Kumar, has created these courses.
“The National Education Policy 2022 was taken into consideration when creating the value-added courses. They include a variety of elements, including creative writing, teamwork, scientific temperament, Indian knowledge systems, and ethical, cultural, and constitutional principles, According to Kumar. This is the first time a prestigious university like the DU has introduced such courses. They will act as a game-changer in terms of social-building,” he added Further.
DU to add value-addition courses: Main aim of some courses
The Credits earned through this course will get update to the Student’s Academic Bank of Credits. Several of these courses are inspired by well-known initiatives by PM Narendra Modi, such as Fit India and Swacch Bharat. Moreover, Students will learn stress management techniques, the physiological and hormonal and interpersonal relationships through the course “The Art of Being Happy”. It will be a two-credit course. Students in the emotional intelligence course will learn how to develop their relationship management skills.
The university will also introduce a course of Indian fiction in English and analyze novels critically.

On 3 August, seven members of the academic council voiced their disagreement during a meeting. According to them, the courses will weaken the idea as cosmopolitan site of culture and philosophical interaction between society.
