Education Ministry Introduces New Curriculum Framework: Board Exams to Take Place Twice Annually

New Curriculum Framework: The Union Education Ministry has published the New Curriculum Framework for School Education in association with National Education Policy 2020. According to the new framework released, the Ministry has decided to conduct the Board exams twice annually. 

As per the new curriculum released, the Union Education Ministry has made the following changes to the Curriculum framework.

• Choice of subjects in classes 11,12 will not be restricted to streams, students to get the flexibility to choose.
• Board examinations are to be conducted twice a year and students will be allowed to retain the best score.
• Board exams will assess understanding, and achievement of competencies over months of coaching and memorisation.
• Class 11, 12 students need to study two languages, and at least one language must be Indian.
• Additionally, textbooks are to be developed for the 2024 academic session.
• Board exam test developers, and evaluators to go through university-certified courses before taking up this work.
• The current practice of ‘covering’ textbooks in the classroom will be avoided, cost of textbooks to be optimised.
• School boards to develop capacities to offer ‘on demand’ exams in due course of time.
