IIT Admissions 2022: The Indian Institutes of Technology is kicking off the IIT Admissions 2022 procedure in two weeks across India. Moreover, the institutes can accommodate 16,598 students this year. They are increasing the total intake capacity by 360 more seats than last year. Earlier Thursday, the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) released the official list.
IIT Admissions 2022 – Intake Markup
Although, old IIT institutes keep the exact seat count as in previous years. The upsurge of seats is due to the addition of seats in the ten new institutes. Namely, IIT Mandi, Hyderabad, Jodhpur, Patna, Palakkad, and Dharwad, are among a few institutes that had upscaled the seats. An IIT Kharagpur official suggests that older institutes have been directed to ensure zero seat vacancy first. Once filled, only then can they decide to increase seats for IIT Admissions 2022. Besides, older IITs do not have sufficient space and infrastructure capacity for existing students. Thus, adding more seats might prove burdensome. Newer seats are a part of new programs/courses at the new IITs.
Previously, IIT used to host three phases of seat allotment, which later escalated to six rounds. Until last year IIT conducted seven rounds, but the Institutes still found one or more vacant seats at the end of the standard admission rounds. Despite so many rounds, there were almost 300 vacant seats across 23 IITs. A re-allocation took place in the seventh and final rounds to fill these seats.
