JEE Main 2023: Major Changes Announced
Given below are the five main changes that the NTA has announced for the JEE Main 2023 exam:
- 75% marks criteria reinstated: As per the new eligibility criteria for JEE main exams, the candidates will be considered for admission through the JEE counselling process if and only if they score at least 75% marks in their class 12 exam from a recognised board. The seat allocation to BE, BTech, BArch, and Bplanning courses in NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs will be based on the candidate's AIR position, provided they meet the 75% criteria. However, the criteria have been relaxed to 65% for candidates in the SC/ST categories.

The registration fee for male candidates belonging to the general category has been increased to INR 1000, and for female candidates, it has been increased to INR 800. For SC, ST, PwD, and transgender candidates, the registration fee for JEE Main will be INR 500.
- Single Application: NTA has warned the candidates to fill out only one application form. If they fill out more than one, strict action will be taken against them. Furthermore, candidates will only be able to apply for one session at a time.
- Parent's Details Made Mandatory: The NTA has made it mandatory for candidates to provide the details of the parents or guardians, i.e., their email address and mobile number.
- Reduction in the number of exam cities: The number of cities in India where the JEE main exam will be conducted has been reduced from 514 to 399. However, the number of exam cities abroad have been increased from 13 to 24.
