LPU Offers Rewards to Students Competing in Olympics and Paralympics
Lovely Professional University (LPU) will offer cash rewards to its students who win medals while competing in the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics.
On 28 July, LPU has declared that the university will provide cash rewards to students competing in the Olympics and Paralympics. Currently, eleven Lovely Professional University students will compete for India in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Hence, the university has announced that they will offer cash prizes to students who bring home medals from the Tokyo games.
Lovely Professional University Chancellor, Ashok Mittal, commented on the rewards system in a press conference. As quoted, “Sports is a huge focus for us, and we support and motivate our athletes in all ways possible. We established our high-class sports complex at LPU and have created a team of highly qualified trainers and coaches. It is heartening that those efforts are already producing results.’’ The Tokyo Olympics are currently occurring and will end on 8 August 2021. Afterwards, the Tokyo Paralympics will take place from 24 August to 5 September 2021.
Lovely Professional University students form around 10 percent of the Indian team, competing in sports such as wrestling and hockey. This staggering volume of LPU athletes is a significant accomplishment for the college. Thus, school officials aim to motivate students further by offering monetary rewards. LPU will reward INR 50 lakhs for gold medals, 25 lakhs for silver medals, and 10 lakhs for bronze medals. Notable players from the university include wrestler Bajrang Punia, para-high-jumper Nishad Kumar, javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra, and quarter-miler Amoj Jacob. Additionally, seven Indian men’s hockey team members, including the captain, study at LPU.
