MHCET 2022: 50% Consideration to Class 12 Marks for Admissions From Next Year
Starting from 2023, class 12th marks will have 50% weightage in MHCET. Students to get admissions based on MHCET & 12th scores.
For Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (MHCET), the authorities will give 50% weight to class 12th marks when considering applicants, beginning next year. Uday Samant, Maharashtra’s Minister of Higher and Technical Education, recently announced. Currently, Maharashtra students’ performance in the MHCET is the sole basis for admissions into the state’s institutes.
Equal Weightage to Class 12 & MHCET Scores
The minister met with officials from various educational institutions in Pune this Tuesday. Samant stated that the government will implement the new system in the 2023-24 academic year, not this year. Currently, the authorities use only CET scores to determine admission to courses such as engineering, law, and others.
Under the new system, CET marks will not be the only criteria for admissions to professional courses. “Under the present system, students are focusing only on the CET. But, after a discussion with Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, it has been decided that now equal weightage will be given to the CET marks and Class 12 marks. This will help students build a good base with Class 12 studies,” Samant said.

Students can opt to take the exam again if they are not satisfied with their performance in the first attempt, said Samant. JEE follows a similar system. In addition, the administration will plan to schedule the second test soon after the first.
