NEET UG Eligibility Criteria 2023: Check Revised Criteria for Indian Candidates Abroad

NEET UG Eligibility Criteria 2023: National Testing Agency (NTA) recently revised the  NEET UG 2023 eligibility criteria for non-resident Indians (NRI) candidates for the National Eligibility Cumulative Entrance Test for Undergraduates.

Subject to the rules and regulations as per the NEET UG eligibility criteria 2023, Indian nationals, NRIs, overseas citizens of India (OCI), persons of Indian origin (PIO), and foreign nationals are now eligible for admission in medical, dentistry, ayurvedic, siddha, unani, and homoeopathic institutes. Prior to this change, OCI cardholders could only be admitted in exchange for an NRI or supernumerary seat.

The current OCI candidate clause, according to NTA, stated that OCI cardholders, including PIO card holders, are foreign nationals having passports of foreign countries and are not Indian citizens. 

The PIO cardholder and foreign nationals shall not be eligible for admission against any seat solely designated for Indian citizens, it was further said. According to the current laws, OCI and PIO will therefore be classified as foreigners and only be eligible for NRI seats, including paid seats at deemed universities.

According to the updated NEET UG eligibility criteria 2023, "Indian Nationals, Non Resident Indians (NRIs), Overseas Citizens of India (OCI), Persons with Indian Origin (PIO), and Foreign Nationals are eligible for admission in Medical/Dental/Ayurveda/Siddha/Unani/Homeopathy Colleges subject to rules and regulations framed by the respective State Governments, Institutions, and the Government of India as the case may be."
