National Medical Commission (NMC) has asked all medical colleges to follow the rules and norms for nursing staff laid down by the Indian Nursing Council.
The National Medical Commission (NMC) has instructed all the medical colleges to follow the rules and norms for nursing staff laid down by the Indian Nursing Council (INC). NMC said that the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) noticed that some colleges are not following the norms of keeping adequate staff.
Samir Sinha, deputy secretary of NMC stated that “It has been brought to the notice of Medical Assessment and Rating Board of the National Medical Commission that some of the colleges are not adhering to the norms and conditions laid down for staff requirement as per NMC notification - all the hospitals shall have adequate staff of various cadres as required and conform to the existing norms. The nursing staff shall conform to the norms as drawn by the Indian Nursing Council from time to time.”
The official notice read that “All medical colleges are hereby instructed to follow the above norms and guidelines of MCI for nursing staff.”
The NMC recently updated the laws regarding the creation of medical colleges and requested input on the proposed changes. The new laws state that in order to establish new medical colleges, universities and deemed-to-be institutions will not be required to meet the requirement of having a "fully operating hospital for a minimum of two years," provided that they meet other requirements.
