School of Architecture and Planning at Anna University Sets in Motion BPlan Course
The School of Architecture and Planning, Anna University has introduced a BPlan course. Students will be equipped with the knowledge of urban and regional planning through the BPlan programme.
Anna University has introduced a new Bachelor's course in Planning, wherein students will learn about urban and regional Planning. The State Housing and Urban Development Department has become the supporting body behind the latest programme. Moreover, the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority, along with the Directorate of Town and Country Planning, will seed funding of INR 18.53 crore for 5 years to support the programme at Anna University.
Thirty-five students have been admitted to the School of Architecture and Planning under the BPlan course this year. Classes will commence from this week onwards. The course has been introduced by Hitesh Kumar Makwanam, Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. He has played a massive role in devising the coursework. Additionally, the service rules for town planners and government departments have been bent to provide ample employment opportunities for BPlan graduates.

The School of Architecture and Planning is the flag bearer for the new BPlan course at Anna University. As per news sources, a government order had been published concerning course funding and financial assistance. The registrar at the University had requested a monthly recurring expenditure of INR 18.8 lakh to support the course for a year. Further, SAP had worked out an estimate of INR 18.54 crore as a funding support amount. Likewise, the concerned authorities had advised and directed the CMDA and DTCP to share the costing in the ratio of 80:20 and provide Anna University with an initial seed of INR 10 crore.
