UGC Confirms Undergraduate Exams to Be Held in 12 Languages: Details Here
UGC planning to transform UG course work, by implementing the programme in 12 languages. NERP 2020 is working alongside UGC to implement this change.
The UGC aims to diminish the language barrier in studying UG courses, such as BA, B.Com and B.Sc, by offering students the opportunity to pursue these courses in their mother tongue. However, to attain better education quality, the UGC has begun preparations for students to access the course books in languages like Gujarati, Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Odia and Telugu.UGC, along with NERP 2020, is arranging the most popular books to get translated for undergraduate programmes for higher education institutions around the country in 12 Indian languages.
Moreover, the UGC Chairman addressed the media concerning how the UGC will act as a nodal agency as a support system to the publisher regarding the identification of textbooks, translation tools and editing experts. As a result, UGC will make the books available to students more affordable in digital format.

Some publishing houses in talks with the Commission are Oxford University Press, Orient Blackswan and Elsevier. Some other publications involved in the change are Pearson India, Narosa Publishers, Viva Books, S.Chand Publishers, Vikas Publishing, New Age Publishers, Mahavir Publications, Universities Press and Taxmann Publications. On the other hand, meetings are ongoing with representatives of Wiley India, Springer Nature, Taylor and Francis, Cambridge University Press India, Cengage India and McGraw Hill.
UGC has also advised that there are two ways to administer the language barrier topics. Wherein either publisher will translate popular textbooks, and simultaneously, Indian authors will write books in Indian Languages for non-technical subjects.
