UGC Warns Students Against Digital University of Skill Resurgence in Maharashtra

The Digital University of Skill Resurgence in Maharashtra is a “self-styled institution” that is not authorised to grant degrees, according to a warning issued on Tuesday by the University Grants Commission (UGC). According to UGC Secretary Rajnish Jain, “Digital University of Skill Resurgence (A Virtual Meta University), Ring Road, Wardha (Maharashtra) is offering numerous courses and programmes in clear violation of the UGC Act, 1956.”
According to Section 22 of the UGC Act, 1956, only universities established or incorporated by or under the Central Act, a Provincial Act, a State Act, or an institution deemed to be a University under Section 3 or an institution specially empowered by an Act of Parliament may exercise the right to confer or grant degrees.
He added that “The Digital University of Skill Resurgence is not authorised to provide any degree under Section 22 of the UGC Act, 1956, nor is it listed under Section 2(1) or Section 3 in the list of institutions. Additionally, no institution—corporate or not—other than a university formed or incorporated by or under a Central Act, a Provincial Act, or a State Act shall be entitled to have the word “university” linked with its name in any way.”
