What is the TET Exam 2024?
The Teacher Eligibility Test, called TET, is the minimum qualification required in India for any individual to become eligible for an appointment as a teacher for Classes I to VIII. The test is compulsory for teaching jobs in Indian government schools. There are two papers: Paper 1 for teachers of Classes I to V, and Paper 2 for Classes VI to VIII.
The TET is conducted by the state and central governments of India. Most states conduct their particular TET. The exam is conducted to meet the objectives of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, of 2009.

TET 2024 Exam Details
There are 2 sections in the TET exam pattern 2024. The details of which are listed below:
- Paper 1- It is for the teachers who want to opt for classes I-V
- Paper2- It is for the teachers who want to opt for classes from VI-VIII
- The teacher who wants to take up classes for I-VII can write both papers
- There is no negative marking in the examination.
- Both the papers will be for 2 and a half hours.
- The question papers will be both in Hindi and English languages.

TET Exam Qualifying Marks 2024
A candidate who scores 60% or more in the TET exam will be considered a pass. School managements (Government, local bodies, government-aided and unaided) (a) may consider giving concessions to persons belonging to SC/ST, OBC, differently-abled persons, etc., per their extant reservation policy and would also give weightage to TET scores in the recruitment process.
However, passing the TET exam merely means gaining eligibility to apply for teaching jobs. It does not confirm your appointment as a teacher.
NOTE: Qualifying Marks Criteria can be different for the different state-level exams.

Eligibility Criteria for Paper 1 of TET Exam 2024
The common eligibility criteria for the Paper 1 exam are provided below. The applicants are asked to adhere to it:
- Candidates who have passed the Senior Secondary Exam or any equivalent exam with 50% of marks and also those who have passed or appearing in the final year of 2 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education can apply for the exam.
- Those who have cleared the Senior Secondary Exam or equivalent exam with 50% marks and those who have passed or appeared in the final year of 4 years in Bachelor of Elementary Education.
- Candidates who have passed graduation and passed or appearing for the final year of the 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education.
Eligibility Criteria for Paper 2 of TET Exam 2024
The common eligibility criteria for the Paper 2 exam are provided below to ensure that the applicants have proper information:
- Candidates who have passed graduation and passed or appearing in the final year of a 2-year diploma in Elementary Education.
- Those candidates who have passed graduation with at least 50% of marks and are appearing or have passed the 1st year of B.Ed.
- Aspirants who have cleared the Senior Secondary Exam with 50% and those who have passed or appearing for the final year of B.EI.Ed is eligible.
- Candidates who have passed or appeared for the final year of 4 years integrated course BA, B.ED, B.Sc, B.Ed or any other equivalent course can apply for this part.
TET Selection Process 2024
The selection process for the TET 2024 exam includes only One Written Examination. If the candidates qualify for the TET exam of their respective state, they gain the eligibility certificate.

TET Exam 2024 FAQ
TET is conducted at both the central and state level. At the central level, it is conducted by CBSE and at the state level by the respective state authorities under the state government.
There is no specific duration. It is conducted as per the vacancies. It can be conducted twice a year, once a year, or once in two or three years.
A person who scores at least 60% in the TET exam will be considered to have passed the exam. TET exam by nature is a qualifying exam in multiple-choice format ( MCQ ).
The maximum age limit for teaching jobs is generally 40 years with a retirement age of 60 years.
